PE meals

Hi folks. Wondering if I can get any feedback on PE meals ie how they are served, what they may be, what the differences, if any, between Y meals and PE.
Last time I flew PE the meal was pretty much a Y meal but with a nice purple paper tray mat. Was not the happy as was expecting something a little better.
Any feedback or pics would be appreciated.

The meals are essentially y meals, just served on 'china'. They give it to you on a tray, which has a cloth over it. You do get the after dinner drink though.

I wouldn't say they are Y meals served on China. PE has a totally different menu to economy.

The PE meal service is an enhanced Y offering, just like the whole PE experience is.

In terms of the actual meal, it is very similar to what a Y meal would be (small salad type starter, main and some sort of prepacked desert). It is however a totally different menu to what is being served in Y, with generally improved offerings, served on china, with metal knives and forks.

I'm not sure what you would be expecting, PE is not a business class offering (as reflected in the price) and to be fair to VS they were the first, and still one of only a few carriers who have really tried to up the level of the PE meal offering, in both terms of quality and experience.

On BA you literally do get exactly the same as what is served in Y.

I thought they'd recently started offering a slimmed down version of the Club World menu? Which is definitely a step up although, in my opinion, somewhat devalues CW.

You're right though Neil, too many people seem to expect PE to be "Upper Class lite". It's not. The key word in Premium Economy is Economy.

In my experience the meals are not bad if a tad small,I would advise you eat before boarding and treat the meal as a snack

WT+ on BA now comes with two of the club world meals, so not a WT option.

Off to the CH at Gatwick prior to boarding so I better be fed there and maybe a wee drink too! 90 days to go. Heres hoping the seat selection sorts its act out.

The thing is Neil, quite often, the cost of a PE seat can be quite high, so I expect that if people are paying a lot more that y prices, they would expect a certain level of service. I've seen business class fares for a lot less than some PE ones.

Well, yes, fully flexible W fares in PE are often more expensive than heavily restricted Zs in UC. For that matter, full fare Y is invariably more expensive than K in PE... In those situations, you're basically paying for the flexibility of the ticket, not for an enhanced service offering on board.

Appreciate that may not be obvious to the average punter though.

Frozen Yoghurt perhaps

Although frankly I'm so hooked on Haagen Dazs cookies and cream that anything else is generally a let down for me.

You get an actual dessert though, rather than simply a Gu pot. Breakfast is also vastly superior to the muffin you get in Y.

I agree that afternoon tea was nicer when you got a scone and cream, the downgrade to the cupcake is unfortunate.

It's just the the PE service had changed a lot since then. Read some PE trip reports for commentsetc on the 'new' service.

Actually, I do think that having the desert at the same time as the meal is better than waiting ages when sitting in economy.

But, the PE menus that I've been served haven't been so vastly different from that I've had in economy.
