Planning to fly to JFK on only hand luggage.

Two questions is the 6KG rule enforced?

The VS web site http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/tr ... 712-_-Link

States

"From 31 March the hand baggage allowance is changing, please see our latest news for more information"

But there is nothing on the link referring to the changes – does anybody know the changes?

if you arent checking any bags and are using OLCI just go straight through security and you should be ok...I have never been picked up on size/weight at boarding, they are too busy. just dont take the mickey and turned up with a ski bag full of the family silver ,like a lot of the yanks do

I read a post about this the other day.... up to 10 Kg I think was mentioned.

As to is it enforced.. again there was another thread that touched on this too... sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. For your hand luggage, I say pack light and check in any suitcases. By the time you get through Border Protection at JFK your case will be waiting for you :P

Come to think of it, where has that other thread gone? :?

Great news - I'm off to book several little red flights :)

That's a T5 thing. It is ridiculous how long domestic checked bags take to arrive in T5 especially considering the domestic belts are just yards away from the domestic gates and the actual aircraft. T1 never takes that long even though the gates are much further away.

15kg would just be about right imho. My experience with the 23kg limit on LHR-TLV was one I will do my best never to repeat. Madness, sheer madness. Even compared to the madness that goes on with the Americans and the rollaboards they try to bring on.

I'd go with that - whenever I do weigh my rollaboard it comes in at 13-14 kg (the bag itself must be 3 or 4 kg so 20 lbs or so (in old money) is I think about right for a week away, suit, shirts, shoes, toiletries and the like.

I agree 20 kilos+ is a recipe for disaster, but up to 15 is simply pragmatic!
