Just checked in for my VS3042 and VS1 flight tomorrow. Although I don't take off till 1615 with VS1 it let me check in now as its a connecting flight :D Got a nice 3D for VS3042 and 76A for VS1! :D Glad I managed to get an upper deck seat! Is it worth enquiring about an exit seat on the upper deck at the airport tomorrow?

The exit rows upstairs have virtually unlimited legroom (unless you are 9 ft tall!) but they are pretty narrow, as they have fixed arm-rests. Swings and roundabouts! Personally, I'd go for the exit row because the extra legroom is so nice.

Have a great trip.

I remember on my 747 flight to Jo'burg, the exit seats were very narrow and the one at the window was limited by the bulge in the door. That was downstairs mind you.

Yeah I read about the arm rests making it slightly narrower. How does it affect the IFE too? I know it comes out the seat but is this as easy to watch as it would be normally with the back of the seat?

The IFE is fine, in my experience.

NB I think they charge for exit-row seats, unless you are lucky.

I remember looking for the bulge upstairs (because you're absolutely right -- it eats into your space) and I think it was much less big. However, my memory is a bit hazy (Redheads in the Clubhouse :| ), so maybe someone else could confirm/contradict. :)

I believe (at least on G-VROC) from memory there is no IFE in the exit row and you will be offered DVD players. But that was just after the re configs - not sure if it has been resolved.
