If I wanted to fly with Virgin for the majority of my route what would be the best way to get to Nashville from London. I'm looking, job depending, to go next spring. Possibly with a week in New York too. Do you think its going to be too complicated and I should just suck it up and go with another airline? On expedia showing AA for around 560 for the full trip. I'm not averse to flying in and out of somewhere else and getting a train to Nashville.
You used to be able to do this via ORD, but I'm not sure what the VS schedule is for spring.
I think Delta serve Nashville quite heavily.
How do I get to the grand ol' oprey ??

Ah, Nashville. The issue you need a single ticket so your bags can do the baggage dance on the interconnect - or else you have the hassle of a 2nd check-in in US on the domestic leg. Hopefully the Delta venture will improve this no end this summer.
Sadly, my work sends me there on average 2-3 times yearly, and not found a acceptable routing yet on VS vs other carriers. And I've lived worked/out there for ~3-6 months in 2001.
Acceptable routing meaning, lots of scope for reroute in case of weather, and not much possibility of an overnight in the connecting city.
Routes I've taken in order of pref on single ticket:
1/ London -> Chicago -> Nashville (BA/AA (all AA or combination) - probably best route if weather good, lots (3-4) interconnecting flights to Nash from here, lounges acceptable on AA here. This is my favorite as you arrive 4-5pm local time ish all being well.
2/ London -> NWY- > Nash (AA/BA) - pain in the ass via Newark I've found - less interconnects and smaller planes.
3/ London -> Atlanta -> Nash (Delta) - can be small plane Atlanata to Nash, but you can drive the distance if bad weather stops the small plane.
4/ London -> Houston -> Nash (AA/BA again) - you fly over Nash 2-3 hours before landing in Houston, but get a big plane bag. I personally like Houston airport, but the time taken makes this route a right pita.
If anyone can come up better routing on VS, I have 2 flighs to Nash this year.
On an aside, the AA lounge in Nashville is to be reccomended (providing you have status or an amex of appropriate type to get you in)- almost VS levels of service, and great conversation from the staff members there. That is the reason I'm preferring AA at the moment to Nash.

Good afternoon
We'll be there this summer for a little bit of Opry and our carrier of choice is Southwest. Good airline with decent fares and 2 free bags (well, free as included in ticket price unlike other carriers). You won't be able to use tham as a full routing but I have given enough recovery time at EWR in case of mishaps. Plus extra time in the clubhouse
Agreed Delta will work but for me and the Mrs, Southwest are the bizz

South west do appear to be your answer, they connect through NY,Chicago , washington or orlando so your VS options are good. as you want to do NY that seems to be the answer.
the driving suggestion is also not a bad one, we have done a bit around that area and its very scenic

Southwest are Chicago midway, not O'Hare. Can be reached vis public transport, involves one change and takes about an hour from all reports. Washington (IAD) is not direct. I would use EWR/MCO as jump points should I chose to do that routing.

It is scenic, but it's a quite a long haul. We did Washington to Nashville, and took (in total) around 2.5 days including stops to view scenery etc.
We can get better, because we're not dead yet
Thanks for all of the replies. I think what I'm going to do is fly into New York via VS stay for 5 days with family, go to Nashville do my week there (probably via southwest or whatever the cheapest airline might be) and then back up to NY for another couple of days with my cousins. Since I want to spend time in NY anyway seems like the best option if I also want to go with Virgin.
