"We have an excellent team of cabin crew today" announcement

I have heard this on nearly all the airlines I have flown in.
Even the little crop dusters that fly internally in the US. The one member of staff introduces themselves and if I'm honest with the tone of some of their voices they really don't even want to be there so I doubt it has anything to do with the "Sound of their own voice". Not saying there aren't one or two out there that do tho 8D but to mark all the CSM's with same brush it a little harsh.
These announcements really are just background noise to some but we have to remember that for a lot of people that travel once a year on vacation and getting on the aircraft is a big thing and little jokes like that can make a vacation start very nice.
The CSM may believe that the staff are excellent, they do have to prove that to the pax during the flight. The CSM just saying that won't fool people, if anything it just sets higher expectations.......To perhaps be dashed :0

Agreed. Not quite sure why a fairly standard statement has been subjected to a standard of linguistic analysis usually applied to the speeches of the Chinese Politburo.....besides, shouldn't it be "you have" rather than "we have" and what happens to "today" when it's an overnight flight and "today" becomes "tomorrow" .

I never considered the depth to which such an announcement like this could be analysed. I always took it as a bit of corporate (yes, the FSM reads from a binder..) positive reinforcement!! Nothing wrong with that is there ii)

I have heard these announcements and the subsequent safety demos countless times now... I never find them presumptuous or overly intrusive, merely an aspect of flying. Granted I like the announcements when there is something more to them, (southwestern for example or indeed the FSM on a VS flight a few months back who did all the announcements in French first followed by English for "those non francophiles") lol, now those made me look up from the paper and glass of fizz

To be honest I don't mind the message at the start telling us how great the crew are going to be. However, when they have been pretty awful on a flight (which has happened many times after an annoucement telling me how great they are going to be) maybe they should apologise before for getting it wrong

Wow. God forbid that a captain or other announcer should be proud of their team.
