Reward Flight Upgrade

Hi,

I am flying NRT-LHR on a reward flight using my miles in PE. I'd love to fly UC back, is there any point asking at the airport for an on the day upgrade or can it only be done by using more miles? I would consider paying some money towards it because I don't have enough miles unfortunately to do it
Flying UC would be a great end to a special celebratory holiday

You can only upgrade a miles reward with more miles - you could try on the day asking if you can pay however (some agents don't recall all the rules all the time and reports suggest this has been done infrequently, but don't bank on it).

How many miles short are you? Is it worth checking online for availability then buying the miles? You should only need 12,500 (12,000 would cost £195 for example). Perhaps check online frequently then if you see availability call VS to hold the seat while you purchase ...

I have a P class fare coming back, I assumed I'd need the difference between what that cost and UC....50K for 2 of us?
