I've just booked my first ever flight in Upper Class, thanks to the amazing sale VS currently has ^) . At first I thought the screen was showing a pricing error...less than £850 for an upper class seat! In August!! I thought July and August was when they doubled fares?!

Now though, I don't know where to sit. It's a 747-400. Rows 1 & 2 upstairs are gone as are 12 & 14 downstairs. Any suggestions?

I'm really excited, but also kind of hoping I don't enjoy it too much as I booked economy for the return flight; I figured I'd be sleeping so wouldn't be able to enjoy the surroundings anyway.

Congratulations! I guarantee after your first UC experience you'll never want to turn right again. You'll certainly miss that flat bed when you're trying to sleep in a cramped economy seat!

My first choice for seats would be downstairs at the front - row 15 or 16 maybe? The 'A' section feels very private and spacious.

Failing that anything upstairs but avoid the 'B' section downstairs (rows 20-25).

+1 on what gumshoe said, the A part is definitely quieter. Also, I'm prefer to do my UC/Economy mixed class bookings with Y or PE in the daytime and UC at night. I just cannot sleep sitting up.

But have fun in UC. The service when they get it right is absolutely fantastic and try to visit the bar. I've made loads of friends there and I'm still in touch with a few of them.

Thanks both. I've gone for 15A.

Glad I asked as I probably would have gone for a seat at the back of the downstairs section so I could get a jump start at the immigration line (I waited two hours the last time I flew into JFK on a Saturday).

Gumshoe; I may not "want" to turn right after this experience, but unless I win the lottery, right will be the norm for me! UC is usually way out of my reach. I could have booked a return in economy for the price of the UC seat, but it was such a great price I decided the little bit extra was worth it to experience the service.

Tinuks; I thought hard about doing the return in UC instead of the outgoing but I wanted to be awake to enjoy the experience! Fortunately I can sleep sitting up, but if the prices are still reasonable next pay day I may decide to upgrade the return.

Cheers

Where's that to/from?.. oo)

Heathrow to New York (JFK) in August. The seat was actually £842 outgoing and a bit less for the return leg; so not "£850 return".

I'm still hoping it isn't a typo and that £3,842 isn't going to come out of my bank account!

That sounds great, and not an error.

I've bought round trip NYC>LHR in UC for under US$1500 (about 1000 quid!) sometimes. amazing value at certain times of year, and yes, high summer in UC is one of those good times too. Enjoy!

TBH as log as you are ready to get off the plane PDQ - i.e everything packed away in your carry on on the descent etc - and are reasonably agile to do some dodging around the slow walkers - then it doesn't really matter where you are sat in UC in terms of the immigration queues.

Thanks, I definitely intend to make the most of it!

Thanks for the advice. I'll be prepared for the wait at immigration but it will be a bonus not to be one of the last off the plane.
