Morning all,
After a terrific flight last nite my 2 eldest are keen to travel UC on the way back on weds ( I know I know!)
The problem I think I have is this- our PE booking is an H class that according to the fare codes can't be upgraded using miles,I do recall a thread a while back debating H fares but would appreciate some advice as to the best course of action.
I have the 30,000 miles req and I think there are G,s available on weds but its just having the H fare that may be a problem.
The flight was booked through VS and not VH if that makes a difference .
All help appreciated

You would need to change your PE tickets to S or W (and I think only W are available at this notice - though I may be wrong) and then use miles to upgrade. This could be quite pricey for 3 of you.

Glad you had a good flight.

Your only option would be to first upgrade the H fare to a miles upgradeable fare using cash, though at this late stage, this might be very expensive as some of the lower upgradable VS PE fares come with a 21day purchase restriction so you may only be able to get a full W PE fare now unfortunately.

It may well work out cheaper to just upgrade to a revenue Upper fare at the airport.

Thanks James and at240,guess I might see what I can do at the airport then ,not the end of the world and I quite like PE on the a346

That is probably your best option. I upgraded a K last year for $320 + miles at the airport and I felt that was a reasonable deal. I believe others have paid less or nothing (just miles). The JFK ticket desk seems to take a pretty realistic approach to selling empty seats for upgrade, so you may just be in luck. And as you say, PE on the 346 is not a bad fallback.

Good luck...

From an H your best bet is to upgrade with money but this may be expensive.
(If you have flyingco miles then H is upgradable).
Another option is to upgrade to an S and I am pretty sure that if you are paying up to a higher fare code there is no advance purchase as the restrictions applicable are based on the original fare purchased. This may also be expensive.
Another option is to look at your booking online (Manage my booking) and see if they are making any upgrade offers (not usually bargains) or allowing you to bid on upgrades.
Another option might be (never tried this) to 'downgrade' to an upgradable economy fare (clumsy phrase, I know) and then upgrade from that.

Of course all this depends entirely on whether there are upgradable seats.
What I can pretty much guarantee is that you will not be getting any free upgrades !!

You did get a result there on the upgrades..I had H Class pe tickets last week, and was point blank refused a miles upgrade but an upgrade in cash would have cost me $1400, for 2 of us. Which was declined. Lol

Great one. Seems like in USA it always seems sooooo much easier to catch those cheaper upgrades.
