Looking at some prices for NZ, Cathay coming in substantially cheaper (Circa £500-1k)based on LHR-HKG-AKL than likes of Emirates/Air NZ..

Anyone been in their new J cabins...

northernhenry, which dates and prices are you seeing? We're considering NZ for next year (April time) as an alternative to Japan.

If you get on a 777 from Heathrow you'll get the new business class which by all accounts is superb. The A340-300 HKG-AKL segment is on the older herringbone seat.

Been in the new CX J cabin. Soothing (or boring compared to VS) colour scheme.
Great layout of the window seats as they are single seat suits but facing the window not the isle so you do feel very private.
The centre seats were spacious and private but this was achieved by blocking eye contact which had the effect of making it feel claustrophobic.
Lots of cubby holes to leave things being in, good TV but seemed to be wither too far away or right in your face (not much adjustment).

Bed was ok but not as nice and flat as VS. Bed linen etc was excellent. Service has not improved to match the new seats though and still robotic. Sure - they smile the required number of times, say the right words and follow the manual exactly. That is the trouble. It ends up being bland.

5 flights a day LHR-HKG mostly on 747 so they are obviously doing something right.

By the way, their call centre staff are still excellent.
