Was checking my VS mastercard statement online this morning to find that it was at the month end and had been moved from the snapshot page to the statement page.I love this time of the month when my FC account rises :)

Shock of shock they had charged my £73 interest. [:0] Panic mode set in cheked to see that my payment had gone in, which it had. Rang Mastercard up to be told that I hadn't paid my outsanding balance in full. I said I always pay in full. [}:)]

Now when I pay I use the card site to request from my bank, not the other way round. Turns out that my balance of £2797:54 ( got to make the most of the 2 for 1 mileage[y]) I paid £2794:54

The girl said that as I hadn't paid my outstanding in full the £73 was the interest on £3:00 [:0] She went on to say as a goodwill gesture she would halve it. I said that it was obviously a keying error (look where the 4 & 7 keys are on the pad). She wasn't having any of it.[V]

I asked to speak to a supervisor, she then came back and said that on THIS ocasion the fee would be dropped but if EVER I didn't pay in full again, then look out.[V]

The moral of this story always double check what you keyed in and what you think you see on the screen.

Regards

Paul

Sorry to be slow here, but why do you get hammered if you don't pay in full - I thought that was the idea of a credit card.

I do the same and put everything I can on the VS card, private or work, and pay it off in full every month. I set up the direct debit arrangement when I first took the card out, and haven't had a problem with it. MBNA always take the money out of my current account on the last possible day to credit the CC before any interest accrues. If you always pay the full amount anyway, Paul, why not do the same?

Best wishes

I always "overpay" as I pay the statement balance plus anything else that's pending at the time I make the payment. That's partly why I don't pay by direct debit. I mis-keyed once and ended up underpaying by about £2 and didn't realise until the interest was charged. When I phoned up I was genuinely bemused [?]to have been charged interest but the chap politely told me what I'd done. He complimented me on my usual repayment record and recredited the interest without me needing to ask - no hassle at all[y]. I agree with Paul though - I am really careful now about checking that I have actually typed what I intended to.

I think the moral of the story for all is to double check everything before pressing the enter button, the CC company was nice enough to let you "off" this time, something they don't have to do,your mistake not theirs.

Same thing happened to me for £0.01. MBNA was very good about it and refunded the interest. I have now set up a direct debit
