Hi All
I usually take the N'EX from NRT to Tokyo, but I am looking at maybe taking a CDC next time.

I have found a couple but before maybe randomly picking one thought I would see if anyone here has any experience of doing this or have any recommendations of CDC's? :?

Took the VS CDC last time I flew into NRT.

They were really quite good, took us all the way to Yokohama. Sorry didn't catch the name of the company but they gave us refreshments for the journey and the driver was very professional, offering to stop if we wanted any photos, preferred route etc..

If you get stuck and noone else can help out, give VS a call. 8D

If you are on a G fare ticket (reward UC) you can buy a transfer with miles - useful if you have some laying around. Cash wise, they do tend to be quite competitive. You are right though, you get what you pay for.

We were fortunate in that, back in the day, the R fare (former UC bucket) was only slightly more expensive than the Z fares we were travelling on for our trip. Upgraded one of our group to the R, and hey presto free transfers all around.. ha ha ha ):

Alas times have changed :#

Indeed. How times have changed. I seem to remember reading that VS used to do a Helicopter transfer if you were staying at a hotel with a helipad?

Anyway I will try VS for the transfer and see what the cost is. I do have some miles however if you buy the transfer with miles is that per person or per car?

Thanks @enjoyingit I will have a goose at the website.

I have found one company that has an S-Class and the transfer is 25,000JPY (thats about £165) another one was about £50 more for the same car.

I remember that they would fly you to a heliport and you'd then have to get a car to your final destination. I don't think they flew to individual hotels.

A miles bought car is usually 17,500 miles and it is per car not person but you need to be on a G (reward) fare to be able to use miles in that way

Oh that's a shame. It would have been so James Bond to be dropped actually at your hotel lol

Ah I have a Z fare so guessing I can't use miles? Will have to actually splash some cash?

We took the Helicopter a few times before it was withdrawn. Time wise it actually worked out longer. A car would collect you from home, for us that was Takanawa near shinagawa, so then a 20 minute journey to the ANA on roppongi-dori where the helicopter departed from. Then 15 mins faffing around. the actual helicopter journey took 20 mins to an airfield that was 25 min drive to Narita. So all in all it took over 80mins where as a car direct would normally be 55 mins, BUT for the experience of walking out on top of the ANA, and then the helicopter "reversing" off the helipad and the actually flight over Tokyo.... it was sooooo worth it.

@enjoyingit- that does sound fun but yes a lot of faffing :-o probably just easier to take a car
A couple of the top class hotels in Tokyo must have heliports so you would think it could be arranged. Surprised they can't land closer to narita but guessing there are flight path issues
The ANA hotel was the intercontinental ?

I came back on Friday, took the Narita Express both ways, thought it was great (and cheap) in the Green car.
I think it is about £25 vs. £120 in a car. An hour in to Tokyo station and no traffic worries.

gfonk, yes the ANA intercontinental. Agreed the Narita express is good but doesnt actually run that often in comparison to say the heathrow express. Also it does come into Tokyo in the basement and can be a pain if traveling with alot of luggage. if we took the train we would usually arrange for the luggage to be collect the day before and pick it up at the airport.

I too have always taken the NEX but when it arrives at shinjuku station is quite a mission to find the escalators so next time I am thinking about being lazy and taking a car
How did you arrange for your luggage to be sent ahead for collection at the airport though? That sounds like a good option too

we used these guys http://www.jalabc.com/english/ although the general Takkyubin service is probably just more flexible.http://www.kuronekoyamato.co.jp/en/tourist/airport/ You can pretty much send anything anywhere from most convenience stores
