Hi all

Looks to book a flight soon, and would like to try using my miles for an upgrade.

I would only have enough miles to upgrade both my wife and I if we both used our miles, but is this even possible?

On the VS site it only allows you to log into one FC account at a time, so would I need to transfer all of my wife's miles to my account prior to booking?

Yes it is possible to combine miles but do not go down the route of transferring / gifting miles between the accounts as this will cost you hard cash for not much benefit.

The way to do it is for one of you to authorise the other to be able to access their account - you do this over the phone. so when you do the booking - over the phone is probbaly best - you can just take the correct number of miles from each account.

However you cannot just add the number of miles in each account together to get the miles you need. You can only use miles as long as there are enough for individual sector(s)

So if say you wanted to upgrade from Y to UC from LHR-NYC return you would need 80k miles in total. If you had 60k in your account and 20k in the other then you could use miles from both accounts (3*20 + 1* 20) but not if you had 65 and she 15.

In that circumstance it would then be wise to buy the 5k miles for her account.

Just to clarify what Tonty has said, you need to use miles from one account on a per sector basis, this is the important bit.

Like Tonty has said, Y to UC is 20k each way to NYC, per person, so you could use 20k from one account 60k from another, or 40k from both, but not say 35k and 5k.

We're not particularly frequent friers, both now have 25k miles each.

Is LGW > LAS 1 or 2 sectors?

Thanks!

each way is one sector

you would need 12.5k miles to upgrade from Y to PE or 12.5k from PE to UC

With 25k miles each of you could do either of the above.

Remember though you would have to be in an upgradable Y or PE fare to be able to upgrade and there needs to be reward availability in the 'new' cabin.
