I've reached Flying Club Gold and decided to post all my memories of Virgin Atlantic over the years on my blog and stumbled across this website... What fun this all is!
The one thing, over the years I wish I had made a note of all the planes I've been on. My commute is between London and South Africa, JNB and CPT, so I reckon I have been at least every A340-600 that flies from Heathrow and a number of 744s too.
I have two flights that were very forgettable; when I first flew PE on an A346 they plonked me in row 23. Never again!
The other occasion was a few weeks ago to Johannesburg on G-VELD. The aircraft was decidedly from the 80s, looped films and all!
The majority of flights have been fabulous and memorable, on occasion for the wrong reason...
We once had the misfortune to sit next to a rather refreshed Jim Davidson in the Heathrow Clubhouse who insisted on telling us a few jokes. We moved.
As you know, flights to South Africa are always post 8pm which means you get to enjoy sundowners in the Clubhouse.
It's typical - a few glasses of bubbly before boarding, a top up once you're settled into your seat then suddenly you wake up, 2am and in the dark, you've missed dinner and you're halfway over Africa!
I have another few trips this year to South Africa and then South Florida too. Will be sure to post reports from now on. Hello everyone!
