I think this is quite an interesting topic.
I have been on an easyjet flight to a terrible spanish resort once (never again, but thats another story), and there were a lot of lager loutish "lads" that were getting rather roudy and singing football songs. It did make for a rather uncomfortable flight. Eventually the pilot made an announcement that if they did not behave themselves he would make an unscheduled landing in a different location to "offload" them.
While I am not a big drinker per say, I am not against people having a few drinks but I am against the loutish behaviour that seems to come with silly drinkers (decent v-flyers excluded obviously).
so I guess I am saying that I am in favour of such a ban on this type of route.

Louts are louts and are going to be louts if you do/don't serve them. If you don't serve them they will get tanked up before, if you don't serve it they will sneak it on anyway. There are always going to be a few that spoil it for the rest.

Expect they'll be seeing a fair few empty Bacardi bottles when disembarked at LAS, does run a high risk of duty free being opened and making consumption harder to check..

I'm expect my first direct LAS to be an eye opener, in both behaviour stakes and Brits abroad mentality :0 thankfully on a G and back via Vancouver y)

There were drinks (alcohol) available last week, either from the trolley or by asking the crew. We were asked not to go to the galley for them
I dont think drinks are restocked in Vegas for the return journey so obviously when the allocation for outbound has run out, they have to close the bar to save enough for the return flight.

flown this route 3 times this year ECx1 alcohol only with meal and announced as such, PEx2 no problem drinks flowed freely but you had to ask at the galley. Not sure if its the same downstairs in PE as I always try and generally do fly in the bubble

i once had the severe misfortune to be seated beside a middle aged couple on an aer lingus flight from malaga to belfast a couple of years ago, at the start of the three and a half hour flight they were very quiet, well behaved and friendly.
i chatted with the couple for a while and the thought crossed my mind what a nice couple they were, BUT......as the flight continued they were both drinking rather a a lot, (as this was aer lingus they were paying for their drinks) about two hours in they became loud, ignorant and obnoxious....and quite drunk, eventually they were refused any more drink, this in turn sparked a rather aggressive tone from them to cabin crew, several times they were asked to relax and behave, but no, they swore, sang, argued, insulted the crew and then the guy decided he would go in to the forward toilet for a smoke !
he was asked to return to his seat and was told any further disruption and he would be meeting the police on arrival.
as we were just about to land at belfast literally 30 seconds before we touched down he got out of his seat in to the adjacent toilet and tried to light a smoke !
he was actually IN the toilet when the tyres hit the tarmac with a female crew member trying to wrestle him out and in to his seat, i always thought the toilet doors were locked when preparing the cabin for landing, in this case i was wrong, i could not believe what i was seeing, needless to say when we landed the plane parked short of the terminal and the police boarded and took him off in handcuffs with his wife screaming her head off also in hand cuffs, not a nice experience i can tell you,
i'm sure we all have had a flight or two when you get the odd "space cadet" giving grief for one reason or another but after my experience along side 'izzy and oscar' (and no, i'm not joking) i would rather have a ban on alcohol than go through that again, so yes, i think virgin and any other airline who take a stand against alcohol fueled upstarts are totally justified.
