As usual we travel down the night before even though the flight now leaves at 12.20pm. This means an even more leisurely start in the morning!

We stayed at the Sofitel, asked for and were given a runway view room, which I love. The Duchess of Cambridge had been in hospital all day so my husband and son had to amuse themselves as my attention was taken between the TV and the runway! :|

We had dinner in Le Cafe, which isn't called Le Cafe anymore, it's always very nice. You can pay upfront for a two course holiday extras menu (bought through holiday extras) which is good value for money.

Anyway, we did twilight checkin and for the first time there was quite a queue. I think we waited around 30 mins.

In the morning we took the monorail over to the south terminal and into the v-room. As always it was great, just a brilliant place to start your holiday. The food was good, fresh, plentiful. The service is attentive. Top marks, y)

I had requested seats at -90 and was really pleased to see that we retained our requests even though I thought they were a bit cheeky. We're a party of three and I requested the window seat and one across the aisle. If you recall my TR last year, I got a bit airsick so felt that being able to see out the window would be helpful. I was pleased to see that we didn't split up any families of four as both ways the people sat next to my husband were parties of three ^)

Anyway, the flight was very good. The crew were excellent. My son spent an age copying and colouring a VS747 from the inflight magazine. We asked the FSM what the captains name was so my son wrote 'dear X, thank you for flying us to Mexico'. He gave it to the FSM and asked if she would give it to the captain when we landed. I expected her to file it in 'B' for bin but within about half an hour the captain actually came down to say thank you! It made my son's day, what a lovely thing to do! y)

The food was ok. I think they have made some cuts from last year and it was pretty obvious from the quality. The menu in case anyone is interested is as follows:

Smoked Halibut on a chopped tomato salad

Beef Stroganoff with herb mashed potato and broccoli
Chicken cacciatore with roast potatoes and cherry tomatoes
Roasted vegetable and pesto pasta

Forest fruit mousse.

Then the afternoon tea I'm afraid I found inedible. Cheese and pickle sandwiches and a banana toffee cupcake. There was something wrong with the cheese, it was very unpleasant.

I have taken to taking snacks on board nowadays especially for the night flights as I just can't stomach the breakfasts. Anyway with a few crackers and bag a crisps I didn't go hungry!

The IFE was good, very large selection of movies, all very new.

Anyway, smooth flight, on time, in once piece - no complaints here!

Thanks for the TR ,what a nice touch by the captain ,I do think the food offerings in PE should be better and a lot of people rightly expect better because its not like you are only paying a few extra pounds to be in that cabin ,it can be hundreds sometimes

I took travel sickness pills both ways, I was fine on the way out but on the way back I felt sick. I think it's mostly in my head to be honest, it's a bit of panic when it's dark and there's still four hours to go!

I understand the feeling. I think a certain element of it is psychological.
I keep a packet of lockets to hand.
