I'd be amazed if they introduced a first-class cabin, really amazed. It would be a brave move.

I'm nearly as surprised that they are supposedly going to fit a new UC seat - I expected a much-improved 'evolution' of the UCDS. An altogether new seat is a resounding rejection of the UCDS, and you have to question the competency of the process that led to the selection and design of this seat.

I have to say, I'm not enthusiastic about a fleet with three different J seats...

The Upper class branding often leads to it being called first class hence seat guru showing the new UCDS on the A330 and the LGW 747 as having first class seating

I also read somewhere about VS being the European launch partner for the 787-9.. Is that true?

Being the super efficient aircraft boeing claim it to be, wouldn't VS be better off putting it on the longer haul routes (Hong Kong/LAX)?

That's what I would like :-)
Feels like the NRT route gets the hand me downs lol

The UCDS was designed for the 787 but due to delays it had to adapted to fit Into the A330 which is why the cabin and the suit has had it's problems.

The UCDS will be on the 787''s as that is what it was originally designed for, although I guess problems that have arisen, will be ironed out..

Sad fact is that economy is only going to get more packed in, as it's largely a price rather than service-sensitive cabin.

That makes sense. but im not sure about 3-3-3. :?

Well unfortunately that is the way most of the operators are going. While it may not suit everyone, the airlines are businesses at the end of the day and while 2-4-2 would be lovely, 3-3-3 adds lots more pax and revenue.

A shame - the two main reasons I always fly VS are:

a) 2-4-2 config on the routes I take, allowing myself and my partner to have a 'row' to ourselves in Y
b) Excellent IFE

This time I've been caught out by the crappy IFE on the 343's but if they were to move to 3-3-3 I'd end up with no real reason to pick VS over the myriad of other carriers that operate on the same routes.

2 abrest makes a huge difference - a window view and not disturbing people I don't know if I wish to take a stroll.

Without that key differentiator then it'll just come back to price - and VS are rarely the cheapest option.

I don't think many other carriers on Trans Atlantic routes offer 2-4-2. It is currently a key differentiator for VS. I have therefore paid a premium to fly with them on a number of occasions.

If this differentiator was to vanish my choice would probably come down to pure price of which it's rarely VS that are the cheapest. Currently, they are a carrier I consider it to be worth a premium to fly with and the 2-4-2 seating arrangement is a big part of that for me personally.

thats true.

Therefore the only way to secure only sitting next to your travel companion is to book PE or UC.
