Ok, so I got caught out last year at T4. I was banking on a gold card upgrade in the hilton at T4, and I didn't get one so was left to find somewhere outside to eat and drink. Terminal 4 is bleak and barren with "a wetherspoon", which wasn't like any I'd seen before, at 5 quid a pint. So we ended up at T3, in the bar/cafe in the shadow of the virgin sign there and it was ok.

This year we've booked the T5 hilton for the night before the Virgin flight, but I've never been in the terminal before (any comments on chance of upgrade, is it a large hilton?). Does the Terminal itself have much in the way of bars and restaurants? Any suggestions for the evening? Bars? Restaurants? Curry houses? Taxi to Staines for the evening? Egham better? West Drayton? Slough? Cost of that?

Does the t5 hilton have a shuttle to T3, I think I remember someone mention that too...

I know other v-flyers recommend a pub called The Peasant which is quite close by. Not been myself though.

The T5 Hilton is a very nice new property. It is some way from the actual terminal though but there is a hopper bus service between the two, there have been some issues with black cabs overcharging so beware of this! v(
Don't bother looking for a curry house in the area there is an excellent Indian restaurant on site together with a more 'traditional' one and I seem to remember a nice bar.
Shame you missed out on an upgrade at T4, these days it is not always guaranteed but I have so far been offered one at both these Hilton properties .
Try looking on the hotel website for menus etc, enjoy the stay and your flight. y)

I thought I'd read before that there was a direct shuttle between Hilton T5 and Heathrow T3, but that National Express site is appalling...

So how would you get there by train? To T5 and get shuttle bus? Or to T3 and get the bus from there if it exists...

I guess getting the executive lounge makes a difference with this hotel, could spend some time in there and eat in the indian... I will look for details of the peasant...

The hoppa bus will take you/ bring you from either terminal to the hotel. Don't try and buy your ticket from the British Hotel Reservation Office they were hopeless, unless things have improved? If you have the cash get one from the driver.
Try ringing the hotel directly if you have any queries they are a helpful bunch and quite used to providing helpful advice.

The Heathrow Hotel Hoppa bus service has info here:
http://www.nationalexpress.com/whereweg ... hoppa.aspx
and also:
http://www.heathrowairport.com/transpor ... otel-buses

You cna buy from the driver, or the hotel usual;y has a ticket machine, or the Hotel Reservation booth. There are several routes, and it is easy to get confused as many hotels have a "similar" name - just how many Holiday Inn's does an airport need!
