Red eye from lax to JFK started in the vx lounge. A really nice space with great views of the airport and runways. Saw a va 747 arrive and depart along copious other interesting aircraft. I wish there had been showering facilities, but apparently lax in general does not permit showers due to 'security reasons' - odd!

The flight was delayed slightly but that wasn't really an issue. I was very excited to learn that the two people sitting beside me had been upgraded to first. The next best thing to an upgrade .... Inheriting space. No one was on standby, so I had 4e and 4f to stretch out on- not quite the most comfort ale bed in the world, but being able to lie down on a pretty full flight was a treat.

The cc were charming but not really much of a presence as this was a red eye flight - so lights off and zzzzz

Red is pretty cool, but after a long day of traveling from Auckland, I decided to sleep.

Landing in t4 as a domestic was exciting and swift. I was out of the airport in about 20 mins after landing.

Not bad!

While the VX418 is my usual pill, a flight I've taken loads of times, I do know what you mean about the ability to get some rest transcon. First of course is ace, but having three seats in Y sounds great.

There are certainly showers in the Air New Zealand lounge VS use in T2, and the Star Alliance website says they're available in its new lounge in the TBIT.

So there's certainly no blanket ban on showers at LAX - at least for international flights. Maybe there is domestically - or maybe, given that presumably they're quite expensive to maintain due to the constant staff presence needed to clean them, VX feel they're not justified for what is, with a few exceptions, a short haul airline.
