We have a Florida trip booked for Oct 2013, three week trip, with seats booked in PE both ways. Miles plus money purchase in June. Rang the FC yesterday to see if there was any way we could upgrade to UC as a treat. Did not expect much to come of the call. Availability on the outbound flight only and offered one way upgrade for £400 pp plus some extra mile (number not specified). The agent said it was quite an expensive upgrade and would be better to call back 48 hrs before the flight and see what was available. Decided to wait but today I have checked MMB and the bid option has appeared on the booking. Sliders go fro £0 to £3k per person per leg and the 'suggested' bid starts at £1205 pp per leg. Seems pretty poor value to upgrade via this route. Any thoughts? ?|

Depends on what that £400 and mystery miles was for though doesn't it...

That is just a suggested bid... what is the true starting bid on the slider? It won't be 0 :P

The lowest value for each slider is £945 pp per leg. So upgrading from a MPM PE to a MPM UC fare one way pp is £400 each plus extra miles? (not sure what the tariff is for the diff between the two MPM fares :#

Hmmm depends on if you want to earn any miles and TPs from the flight... :?

Thinking on it this way, you would be paying an extra £545 p/p for the miles earned and the 5TPs per person.. not to mention saving the few thousand miles the MPM upgrade would take.. No guarantee on the £945 bid being accepted of course ii)

My advice would be the MPM upgrade, if I had the miles to burn of course, at £400.. it's not a bad price to bump into UC given your relatively limited options with MPM fares.

Was the agent's warning to wait an indicator the flight was relatively under booked though... Ahh decisions decisions... Where is that lucky 8 ball :P

Thanks for all the comments and very helpful advice. Will wait a bit then call again to see if still available. TP's and miles earned are not really an issue for us we mainly collect miles via the CC and take the odd reward flight or MPM trips. Not worth striving for Silver and never going to make Gold so this works best for us. :)
