Pan Am Rebirth?

I nearly drove off the road near the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) yesterday after seeing what appeared to be a Pan American B727, painted in traditional blue and white colors, parked at a gate. Sure enough, that's what I saw.

Having just now read that the latest incarnation of PAA is no longer flying, and particularly this far West, I was really surprised to see this airplane. My guess is this one was a charter flight. Maybe some of our airline enthusiasts can solve the mystery?

The Pan Am Website gives no indication that it is out of business.

Does seem unusual that it should be that far West though.

I always get a real kick out of seeing those planes when I am visiting the in-laws close to Sanford. My mother worked with them for 10+ years and I spent a summer working for them at LHR (my first job) so I have a great affection for them.

Uh Oh! Steady on Chuck, that's a dangerous symptom. Next thing, you'll be sitting round at airports with a clipboard, camara and binoculars.

I nearly flew them last year from Sanford (Orlando) to San Juan. Not even a whisker of their former self though.

Pan Am was a real loss, and if parts of the film 'The Aviator' are true then Juan Tripp (sp?) seemed to be a 'Tiger' of man.

This is what we spotters like to call, the fake PanAm. It is merely a company that chose to buy the rights to the PanAm name and logos, etc. It is really, if you wish, the 4th rebirth of PanAm and has been around for a couple of years. Most PanAm lovers are really angry and upset with the company for using the name, but no one can really do anything about it it.
