Yes, you still have to pay £500 in taxes etc, but there is availability to many routes in the US. I think most of the posts on Flyertalk are a little unfair as people want to know why they can't go on the exact date and place they want to.

I'm happy to find availability and then plan a trip around it.

You can also book shorthaul BA rewards with little to no taxes, which is what I did last year and took the family to Barcelona in CE for around £100 and 120K in miles. Some would argue it's a bad use of miles, but for me it works.

Hi. I'm back again and getting a little frustrated with Virgin. Every sales agent has been very helpful indeed, but they all tell me different things!

To cut a long story shorter, I have been told that I can't get two upgrade seats and two companion seats in the same booking. Secondly, it seems best bet to get two reward flights in PE, then two econ seats for the kids, which if the seats were available, would mean we could all go to the West coast for 100k miles and just £800(ish) tax, which is a fantastic deal. If only there were the seats available...

One helpful agent found seats to Las Vegas, but the airmiles sale covers the whole of the USA apart from Vegas, so I am short of miles by about 70000.

Therefore, I could buy the extra miles from Virgin for about £800, but I still feel a bit short changed when they ought to include Vegas if they are flying to LA and SF.

I'm grumpily hoping you have some clever suggestions...!
