You are not supposed to charge any device on any A/C with in-seat power. It only supposed to be used to power your device whilst you are using it.

The socket type will depend on the A/C.

All the aircraft with VERA Touch (all the A333's plus the LGW/MAN 744's) have dual UK/US standard sockets.

Aircraft with VERA on demand (what was V:Port) i.e. all the LHR A346's and LHR 744's have an Empower socket so these need a special cable/adapter.

I think the A343's with VERA Reel have no power sockets at all.

Thanks folks. I kind of thought that was the case, but my thinking was that yes, I would try and charge wile using the ipad. I have no idea what plane/system will be on the plane of course (VS43) , just have to wait and see...

You will be on a lgw 744 with Vera touch ife and if you are in upper or premium you have a standard uk plug socket for your devices - have a good trip!

As far as I can recall there is no at seat power in economy.
In UC the crew can provide an empower adapter if you need it - not sure about PE. Probably depends how many UC pax need them.

I never quite understood the 'using but not charging' rule as by using you are automatically charging.

Not necessarily with an iPad - it'll sometimes say "not charging" even if it's plugged in if the power source isn't strong enough.

But that rule simply means you're welcome to plug in a device to keep it powered up while you're using it, but you can't just leave it to charge when you're not.
