Hello all!

I managed to book a flight AMS-LHR- next day: YVR & LAS-LGW-AMS return all in UC. Saved me 1000 by booking it trough Amsterdam where i would've been anyway at moment of outbound flight so works out perfect. However i'm not interested in the return flight from LGW-AMS as i live in London. The AMS-LHR and return from London to AMS are with BA.

My question is: HOW can i make sure the luggage stays in London for me to pick-up and just go home without taking the AMS flight? Is it as easy as asking the Virgin folks in LAS? Or are they not allowed to just put the LGW tag on the luggage? If not what other option do i have?

Thank you very much y)

Shouldn't be a problem - just tell the check-in staff at LAS you'll need access to your luggage on arrival at Gatwick so please tag it LGW. There's no reason why they should refuse.

I've done the ex-AMS a couple of times and all I did was to ask the VS to tag me to LHR (I was flying from SFO)

Be aware though, if you collect Avios points, that there is anecdotal evidence that from time to time BA have audited their FF accounts and have cancelled accounts of flyers who have repeatedly used this tactic.

I have only heard of this happening when it is a BA international as well. They don't seem to care if the international is another airline, as normally that airline is paying them for the BA parts.
