Hello All

I am sure there have been many a thread on this, but alas I cannot find one anywhere (even a google search!)...

In preperation for my trip I am thinking about getting a room near LHR - our flight is at 9:30 and we have Clubhouse access so I want to spend time in there in oppose to the M25 on the way in!

Does anyone have any ideas on where is best to stay (I would go Hilton but at the wrong terminal) - and how to get to the terminal from the hotel. Also, I have seen a few offering parking if you book one night - this almost seems too good to be true?!

Hi
I have used the Radisson at LHR. It offers stay park and fly deals varying from 8, 15 and 21 days parking for the cost of one night stay. Also it is about 5 mins on the transfer bus to T3. It goes to the Sheraton then on to T3 but max 10mins. You can buy the ticket at the hotel entrance.

A number of hotels offer stay park and fly so just take your pick.
Any questions ask away.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Gfonk..!

I shall look again on the old Google thing..!

My plans was to get to LHR, sleep get up super early and check out the Clubhouse for as long as possible. Seems silly to get up at 4:30 to start my trip for the sake of £100ish...

Once I am in the Hotel can I just wander over to LHR for a loo kabout, or is it best to not bother / too much hassle..?

Also, who did you book Tokyo with - thats my next destination ofter NYC..! Went online and VH are awful - keeps saying there are no holidays there yet VA shows the flights!

Personally I find booking the hotel / car parking separately as it often works out cheaper once you have factored in the cost of the Hopper bus to and from the terminal. Also, I like meet and greet parking so that doesn't work with a flying package.

I just usually have a look at sites like hotels.com etc and see who is the cheapest, they are all pretty much similar in terms of quality I have found and then book my parking direct through purple parking usually.

Do also look at hotels like Premier Inn/Travelodge, when they have their sales on you can sometimes grab a bargain. I've had a couple of £9 rooms at the Travelodge and a £29 at the Premier Inn, when all other hotels where £100+

Hi Neil
The Radisson do offer a meet and greet service upon returning to LHR after your flight. You just need to request this (according to their website that is, though I have not used this in practice).
You are right though it probably does work out cheaper to drop your car in a long stay car park but I bet its not too much different for a long stay of two weeks. Just my nickels worth lol

I dont think you would want to try walking to T3 from the Radisson (even though it is really close on the bath road).

I booked my flights to Tokyo with VS directly and then simply searched for hotels on the internet. If you want help with hotels in Tokyo I can help?

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on that closer to the time! Bit far away yet - but I think I will do the same, especially by then I will have loads of miles so can get an upgrade! But thanks...

Been lookibg now and the Arora looks decent with a view of the north runway and is about £200 including parking...

On an unrelated note - in PE on the Airbus A300-600 I am thinking of seat a18 as it has (well on a youtube video) a lot more legroom and footrest..! Can this be true, and is it still 90 days when you can get the seats or can I do it before then?!

Row 18 in PE is a front row seat but it cannot be requested at T-90.
This seat is usually reserved for people with special needs or a mother parents traveling with a baby/toddler.
HOWEVER if come the day of the flight no one has made a request at booking that justifies this seat then it is allocated first come first served so if you check in first then ask the question and if it is available then reckon you will get it.
I have managed this on a few occasions.

We have booked the Crowne Plaza through their friends and family link (google) and if you register and their Park, stay and go, website you get an additional 10% off.

We always choose the Sheraton Skyline, have done for years, they have wonderfully comfortable beds. Then we book a Meet and Greet from Purple Parking, from whom we have always had excellent service.

The Arora at Heathrow is a nice hotel, however if you want to use hotel as opportunity to earn miles then Radisson or Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza will earn you 300-500 points for a stay, as will Hilton I believe. Check the partner link on your FC page. With some you have to ring but just pull up the deal you're looking at online and then call to book.

These days I try not to drive into airport as I hate driving after long haul, but lots of the parking firms are same same and I have used a couple. I understand Purple Parking is also an FC partner offering 5% discount plus miles earning for various options.

Worth doing.

Have used the Premier Inn a few times (and have 2 more booked in). It's comfortable, close and has a decent bar and bar meals y) Very adequate IMHO

Personally I loved the Sofitel at T5 when we flew BA to JFK. Fantastic hotel, and free travel to T3 on the hex/tube(with oyster).

Stayed at the premier inn once... Never again. They seemed a little uncomfortable that we were both male sharing a bed, plus I had the worst nights sleep ever! But it was cheaper. We used that with purple parking meet&greet.

I agree with others that Premier Inns these days are good quality for little money. However I've had a similar experience to you a couple of years ago booking in at Premier Inn Gatwick with my OH. There were 5 in our party, all men, with 3 rooms and we were the first to arrive and check-in. I got this 19 or 20 year old who wanted to make a big deal of 2 men sharing a bed and I stood my ground and very firmly told him to deal with it and allocate the room. I took a note of his name and later fed back as they sent out a feedback email. I named him and told them he needed diversity training and that in the 21st century, 2 men sharing a bed, whether they are a couple or not, should not be a big deal and that he made me (fleetingly) feel uncomfortable. Never got a reply. Put me right off them I'm afraid.

Anyway, I don't want to wander too far of topic, but that's my experience with them.

Thanks guys, didnt realise I can get FC Miles from hotels too..! I shall book one of these then as I am becoming obsessed with these...

On a side note, we booked with VH and they have given us CH access at LHR... Well, we paid for it but still - we are flying PE. On their Live Chat the helper 'Matt' said that we dont have access, not sure who to beleive now... On the booking form it sais Clubhouse, could this be an error - I would be very upset if we got there and they refused us entry!

I'm not sure about this, but would double check it. Anyone else got ideas?

If it's in writing on your confirmation then it's confirmed.

Perhaps "Matt" works for VS rather than VH and is answering based on class booked and not that you have paid extra.

It has been dealt with in this thread. Please do not continue to respond about this here but keep the discussion to Heathrow Hotels.

A couple of points in response to comments upthread --

1. Walking from the Bath Rd to T3?! ?| Is that possible? Surely not -- you'd have to walk through the tunnel.

2. I've stayed at the Sheraton Skyline, which was nothing special but extremely cheap via a blind bid on Priceline. Perfectly acceptable.

3. The Hoppa? I didn't bother. The local buses are free of charge within the immediate vicinity -- and very frequent.

@at240
I definitely wouldn't recommend attempting to walk from bath road hotels to T3
As you say you would have to walk through tunnel and besides I don't think there is any pavements (sidewalks)

Yes, I dont fancy that one bit..! Could be a little bit dangerous..

On the Hilton Website is states that there is free transfers from T5 to T3 - but I can only see either the Hopper or the Tube (and the tube really for me defeits to point of staying the night to then take a 20 tube ride!). Can you get from T5 to T3 any other way?

I think I will see what I can book and get Miles on to be honest, seems the best way... Becides its only for one night so I am debating the quality I need.

Hi Daniel
The Radisson and possibly the Hilton offer a CDC service to the terminal. Radisson CDC costs about £15 (the last time I enquired about it), not sure about the Hilton. On the Hilton website they instruct that if you require a taxi to the terminal to contact concierge as they can provide a cheaper option than taking a local taxi.

Now that's interesting... I may well have to call the Hilton..! A nice CDC to the terminal would be amazing, and for £9 more than the Hopper it's well worth it.

Affordable luxury is what I am all about at the moment, well until I can afford real luxury!

All London busses are free around LHR. There is a map showing the free bus routes on the LHR web page.
