Hi,

I recently booked LHR-LAX and JFK-LHR for next July. I used all of my miles upgrading the outbound leg to UC (SO excited! and thank you everybody who gave me tips before I booked!) but I am steadily building them back up with Tesco vouchers. At the moment I have enough Tesco vouchers to give me approx 13,000 miles while the conversion bonus is on, and to upgrade Economy to UC for the return leg it would be 20,000.

My question is theoretical at the moment as there's no upgrade availabilty to either PE or UC on my flight, but I wanted to ask now so that I have the information if anything opens up!

Is it possible for me to use 10,000 miles to upgrade economy to PE (ie grab it when/if one appears!) and then if I manage to get the other 10,000 and there's a reward seat available, upgrade the rest of the way to UC? Or would my upgrade have to be done all in one go, Economy to UC?

Yes, you can upgrade to PE first and then to UC at a later stage, no problem at all.

It's 12500 miles to upgrade from PE to UC
But straight from E to UC is 20k miles
So only a fraction less miles required to upgrade in one go
But as Neil says its possible to do in stages (I didn't know that till now too)

The OP is flying to NYC, so it is only 10k to upgrade to PE from Y and a further 10k from PE to J - the overall amount will always be the same, regardless of if you do it in stages or all in one go.

Thanks for that Neil
My mistake, (apologies OP) I forget NYC is shorter than the further flung zones
I have learnt something new
(I just checked and the miles needed [on my usual route]have increased so that's another reason I was wrong too).

Thank you!

Didn't want to upgrade to PE and then get told later I couldn't upgrade an upgrade :)

I'll get back to my Tesco vouchers then! :)
