Traveling back from Orlando last night this was the quality of the three kids meals served up to us - a dried, out congealed mess.

The ovens got the blame, but I would of thought an airline that has been flying for nearly 30 years could do better - They would not of served food to adults in such a mess.

Kids meal?! What is this of which you speak? We've never been offered a kids meal, nor, for that matter a 'kids pack'.

Joking aside, that looks horrid!

I seem to recall it was Heston Blumenthal who said "aeroplane ovens only have two settings - hot and very hot".

Looks like a standard adult economy meal to me - ie an overcooked ready meal. I presume, like the special meals you can preorder, kids' meals are the same whichever class you're in, just served differently,

:0 You can see why we dont pay for complimentary meals. If l had to pay for this l would not serve this to my dog :$ more to the point she would not eat it. v( I still take snacks etc on board with me because l still dont want this served up to me, if they do and have, l make them take it away and eat my snacks. I would just prefure a sandwich of my choosing anyway. I dont like congeled gu. :|

I have always been of the belief that plane food is never going to be of the quality of food you can get on the ground even if travelling in UC and duly fill myself up beforehand because at least you won't be hungry half way across the atlantic ! That said I've had some nice meals in UC and it just added to my ever expanding waistline .

Just a reminder that airline food is mass catering and there are limits on what can be done in the air and especially in economy.

The need to pre-cook, chill and then re-heat meals is not very good for the food at all.

Every celebrity chef (even Heston) who has tried to improve airline food has essentially failed because they simply cannot live within the restrictions.

what is it though?
I have identified overcooked broccoli, overcooked pasta in cheese sauce and then... What..?! Hash browns? Is this to save them serving breakfast separately?!

Well I've tried Chickens Feet in HK actually but to serve the fingers to innocent children...! VS, I ask, what on earth are you thinking(!!)

That looks awful.

I fear that the airlines (well, some of them) are driving economy passengers into a corner - in the not too distant future I suspect the food will be rather better, but... you will have to pay extra for it...

Yet to have a kids meal on any flight which could be deemed good. Avoid and pick out bits from an adult meal, and go stocked with key favourite things...

That looks utterly disgusting, I would have given it back.

Yep, that is the very same meal our two girls were served in UC on our recent trip. The funny thing is I had joked about the pictures posted of that meal with Hubby and our girls at the airport prior to the flight!!! There was no way they were going to eat it. They were pretty disappointed as when we flew UC years ago they were served some pretty 'good' kids food, fish fingers, pasta and meatballs etc....

Ali :)

Over the last six decades, passenger jets designs have improved, seats have improved with flat beds, IFEs have improved with personal screens and on demand service. I am struggling to find any improvement on airline food if not the quality has actually deteriorated over the years.

Yes that may appear to be true
I have to say though that on my last trip in UC the food was great. Maybe I'm not a regular and perhaps relatively easily pleased but still.
I think part of the issue is the constraints around actually "cooking" reheating the meals, which by their very nature are not much more than glorified microwave meals.
