I'm flying LHR-DXB Saturday, the company agent has booked me a PE ticket, H outbound, S return

I'm gold and have c. 80k miles, so aside from enjoying the clubhouse I'd hoped to to splash out some on an upgrade

I did a loadcheck, it shows plenty of UC still free outbound, only one inbound, so outbound is probably the best bet, but...

I don't think I can use points to upgrade an H ticket to UC, so I'm wondering what, if any, my options at the airport are

for instance, could I buy up from H->S then use miles? any idea what this is likely to cost?

I'd be grateful for advice as it happens this way on just about every flight the agents book

I upgraded from PE to UC in may on H fares ( me and my two eldest children ) and it cost me the grand total of 245 dollars plus 30000 miles but this was from New York

good to hear it's a possibility to use money+points, I'll see what they say at the airport

I did a money-only upgrade from a non-upgradable economy fare code to PE a while ago on a LHR-MCO flight, they wouldn't let me use any points, it was really expensive, maybe it's the UK taxes on longhaul behnd the cost though

thanks

Anything's possible at the airport. Go to the ticketing desk before bag drop/check in. If they've still got empty seats and they want to sell them, that's where it'll happen.

Just don't have any expectations, and take it as a surprise bonus if it happens.

The reason they might not have allowed you to use mils is if there wasn't any miles seats available. There are only a certain amount of seats that get sold for miles, it varies depending on route/time of year/loads etc.

That is great value.
It is likely you paid the fare difference up to S plus some tax then used miles to go into UC. Did your fare code change ?
From my experience the difference between H and S is often about £100 (on the LHR-HKG route anyway).

Just a note - you can upgrade from H using FlyingCo miles so well worth signing up your company for that.
