Reclining seats in W and Y

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else as it was a first for me. I leaned forward to take something from under the seat in front of me and at the same moment, the person in front reclined her seat fully. Needless to say, I got bumped in the head. It wasn't painful but it wasn't the highlight of my flight either.

A rule I tend to follow is to always look behind to see if you are going to throw someone's dinner all over the place or crack them round the head it appears.. if they look like nice enough people I may even ask them if it is ok - not heard a 'No' upon asking (..yet )

Manners arent taxed yet so its still free to use them and I would always ask the person behind if they dont mind me reclining.
Usually after dinner once the lights are dimmed everyone usually reclines anyway but if one was to recline beforehand then a simple nod to the person behind is always nice.

I've had folks in front refuse to put their seat up during meal times.

But I try to be courteous and double check behind - you never know, they may have a kiddie on their lap!

I'm okay though. I was just caught off guard but to be fair, she apologised immediately but I would have preferred it if she had checked 1st

I seldom recline my seat if in Y, was sat behind two of the worlds biggest numpties on my 1st LR flight....they were in row 1 and even with the acres of space the woman in the middle (in front of me) slammed her seat back with enough force to suggest she had the back muscles of Arnie in his day....You know, I should almost write a TR just on their behaviour on the flight, most especially her complete and utter loser of a husband who slapped her for accidentally pinching his arm on the arm rest, my favourite quote of his being "Your parents would be disgusted by your behaviour right now, I'm going to tell them about this!"...yes he said that, a grown adult, to his wife that he just slapped in the face. I kid you not.

Whilst not condoning spousal abuse.. that recollection did make me laugh Simon. ii)

I've had people in front recline their seat all the way back as soon as seatbelt sign goes off, and then they never actually reclined into it, but sat forward playing with a laptop. Come meal service, CC asked them to raise their seat again, and was ignored. On second pass by CC she asked again and was ignored so she raised her voice and snapped at them have some manners and raise their seat for meal service and she grabbed the seat back and pushed the button and yanked the seat forward! That got their attention, ): and I don't think they reclined it again for the rest of the flight.

This may prove controversial, but I always recline my seat, I do check behind first though to avoid incident.

I don't feel bad about doing it, as on a long flight you need to be comfortable, and it isn't as though you get much leeway with the seat in Y anyway. I also always raise my seat during meals.
