Well fellow vflyers I'm sure most of of you are aware of events leading up to this trip but for those not in the know it goes something like this.
On Friday ( yes the day before ) I got a teeny bit tipsy and due to a quiet week at work thought it would be a cracking idea to come to NYC because in all honesty I won't get a free few days for a while now due to a heavy workload starting soon .
I got home from the pub where I'd booked my flights and dropped this little bombshell on mrs b who shall we say wasn't exactly over the moon :(!
I woke up on sat morning with an almighty headache ,hangovers certainly seem to take a lot longer to go nowdays , I couldn't even remember what hotel I'd booked ?|
I've got to admit that despite all the bravado I was feeling guilty so sorry mrs b ;)
Anyway took master b to footy where he had a blinder and then went home and packed in about 5 mins and set off down to LHR ,easy journey down for once and was dealt with by a very pleasant chap at check in.
I already had my boarding pass on my phone but still opted for a normal one ,I'm still really not sure sometimes what desk I'm meant to go to ,I only had hand luggage so seeing as I'd already checked in could I have just bypassed the check in desks and gone straight up in the lift ?
So up to security and straight through and as I'm walking through DF a virgin lady walks past me with a girl and they get stopped and asked for photos so I guess she was famous , not being that quick on my feet nowdays they overtook me again after the pics and past me on the stairs going up to the CH and I'm sure I spotted a hole in her Adidas sock !
Still haven't a clue who it was .
The clubhouse was as good as ever but I didn't take full advantage of the alcohol as I was still feeling a bit ropey to be honest and even the waitress in the brasserie seemed a bit surprised when I requested sparkling water :P
After the pork starter and the CH burger I wandered over to the desk to see if I could get on the vs9 and I could of if I had been willing to pay a £100 change fee which I wasn't prepared to do , I know different fare codes have different restrictions but come on VS ! There was plenty of room on the 9 and it wouldn't have hurt to waive the fee would it?
To be fair D at the concierge desk tried her hardest on the phone but it wasn't happening so on the 25 I stayed.
Managed a little nap on the green sofa/bed thingy in the corner and felt a bit more with it when I woke up so made my way to the bar and ordered my first alcoholic drink of the day after being in the CH for some 3 1/2 hrs ( shocking I know)
So boarding time came and off to gate 17 and I was actually the first passenger on the plane ! y)
I think vflyer should start a little thing along the lines of seq 1 etc
Declined the champers opting for oj and water and settled down into the suite .
Despite negative comments about it ( from me aswell) i really don't mind it now , I liked it originally when it was my first ever UC trip but then after a few trips in the old suite I could see where people were coming from but I don't mind it now and would not chose a different flight to avoid it .
Very quiet flight again with 142 on board and 18 in UC , PE less than half full and loads of room in y .
Food ok ,had better on most other vs flights to be honest, beef was a bit tough .
Only had that and cheese and biscuits and made the bed up and got a bit of sleep .
Cabin crew were very good and it was a very quick flight of 6hrs 38 mins as we had a tailwind so landed at 10 o'clock .
No queues either y) so straight through and not having any bags to collect straight into a cab and was pulling up at the hotel in less than an hr after landing which I was more than happy with .
All in all another decent vs effort and I'm just a bit disappointed I didn't make the most of the CH but I guess that's my own fault ! ):

Thanks for the TR Blacky.

We all have those lapses in CH use, especially after a heavy one the night before, so all is forgiven... this time :P

Enjoy NYC 8D

Thanks for the TR

Sounds like a good flight, shocking news about the CH use and OJ on boarding, it sounds to me like you could have had an extra couple hours in bed at home between footy and heading for LHR then you could have taken up your rightful position at the Onboard Bar for the duration of the flight.

JFK CH look out I guess.
I hope NYC treats you well and that Mrs B is feeling forgiving, safe trip home.

Had to check my emails in the morning lol :D

Ah, good point. Hope it was what you expected :o)

Mr L2H is plotting a trip to NYC next year (including me and L2H Jnr of course) using his Avios miles.
Any tips on hotels would be much appreciated.
Enjoy your trip :)

Well that's a tough one L2H ,there are so many factors to take in to account ,I've never stayed in the same one twice but I think my favourite has been the ONE UN ,its a bit over on the east in midtown so a bit of a walk to some things like times sq etc but its a really nice hotel ,I had a very big room with views over the river ,I think they upgraded me because I only booked a standard room or if you want to be a bit closer to the action the Westin Times Sq was very nice indeed with a lovely steakhouse in it ,mmm I can taste it now !

Noooooooo :0 . IMHO there's nothing worse than a last minute purchase from duty free from your loved one ( and usually something you hate too.... ) v( v( . You're not making this easy for yourself are you Blacky ?? ): ): Unless shopping has improved hugely in JFK in the past couple of years you'd better start formulating plan B ! ):
