so if i book the car for 45-60 mins after we land it should be ok? Do they wait out side the arrivals area with a sign board or are they outside? as i know phones are not allowed in immigration?

Well done on securing a good deal, and your GF will be thrilled with the surprise if you tell her you're flying PE. Nice touch, have a great trip.

Check out the Dial7 website as there are different meet and greet options.

Do hold in mind though that from JFK there are more than enough yellow cabs at the doors and if there is a queue, it does tend to move quickly.

If you want to go with a pre booked, my advice would be to wait until you are clear of customs and then head over to the transport desk in the arrivals area. Call up Dial7 (or Carmel) from the transport landline, saving some of your international minutes, to let them know you have cleared customs and give them your booking ref. They will then tell you where to meet your driver and give you his car info/plaque number - it will probably be across the road in the loading/unloading zone from my experience.

Hope that helps Fordie, enjoy your trip 8D

As Joey said, you ring them once clear of immigration, and then you'll meet the driver outside, they have car numbers in car windows and the phone operator will tell you which number is yours and where it will be.

thats great i think i would be happy doing it that way using the transport phone. i suspect the contact number will be on the confirmation email!
on dial 7 website it says an extra $5 for rush hour between 2pm-7pm and the price does not include tips and tolls? How much tip do you have to give and how much is the tolls?

The transport phone has a Dial7 (and other cab companies) direct dial codes on it, so it is literally simple enough to look at the list of codes next to the phone, pick up receiver and dial. There will def be the contact details on the email in case you get lost or take a gander at their website. The transport desk is also manned so don't be afraid to ask if you get a little stuck.

In regards to the tip - 17-20% will be fine.. The tolls - ask the driver to take the route via the Queensboro Bridge. It is a good drive into NYC providing an amazing skyline view of Manhattan, and more importantly, is toll free ):

I suspect you have to tip all drivers? Such as taxis also and same percentage?

I will ask about the queensboro bridge for an alternative way.

Llamas I would like to say thanks to all posts on my thread as you have all helped out. We would be lost with v flyer :)

I don't want to start another "To Tip, Or Not To Tip? That Is The Question" thread but a tip of 20% is pretty much de rigueur for anyone providing a service.
