AA have received their first A321 complete with lie-flat seats in bus & first, the transcon market is uniquely competitive. Soon, it'll leave VX as the only 'major' player on that route(s) without lie-flat seats - but does it really matter? The VX product being one of the better ones to begin with!:

Different markets. AA, UA and DL fill their planes from JFK to SFO/LAX with corporate contract finance and entertainment types (AA esp. with the latter, hence why they are the only ones keeping a 3-class plane on these routes). VX doesn't have the network or the alliance heft to compete for those contracts, so it would be pointless for them to try and change their seating especially since this then makes your aircraft no longer perfectly interchangeable, a critical feature for lower cost carriers.

The AA plane will be great - the F seat is basically the same as the new AA/CX biz seat, the biz seat is kind of similar to the UA/CO biz seat at four across. Just praying US don't scrap all this soon ...

Not everyone will agree with this, but (for me) lie-flat seats are only an attraction for the eastbound red-eyes. Since I avoid these like the plague (brutal jet-lag), I can't see any reason not to opt for VX. :D
