Aaaargh! A week to go and I am so unprepared. Anyhoo, two dumb questions to which I should know the answers but don't.

1. Am I correct in assuming that as we have through tickets to SYD hold baggage is transferred automatically and does not need to be collected and then rechecked?

2. Where is the best place to buy duty free alcohol? #1 Son wants us to take a bottle or two. If I buy in London can it be carried through security at Dubai?

Thx

Q.1 Yes. I didn't even have to collect and re-check when I had a 10 hour stopover which included a hotel stay in Dubai.

Q.2 Dunno but I would assume Dubai.

1) I would say so yes.

2) Don't buy it on your way to SYD, buy it on the journey home as doesn't Australia still have a ban on taking in any liquids over 100ml which includes duty free?

PS. Did you not read my DUB-DXB TR where I had checked that very fact with Emirates with regards to Q1.

I called Emirates once more and was reassured that the hotel reservation was there, as was the CDC and that my bags would be checked all the way through to Durban (trans: pack an overnight bag with a change to warm weather clothes).

James

It's for delivery to #1 Son who's currently resident in Sydney, not for our return to the UK. Looking at various current websites such as...

http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/shop/sy ... ances.aspx

it looks like it is 2.25L pp

Read this

"Only duty free delivered to the boarding gate will be allowed onboard flights to Australia."

So don't buy from London, it will be confiscated.

If you buy at DXB it will have to be delivered directly to the boarding gate. And I was unimpressed by the prices in DXB....depends what your son likes but there are better deals in Dan Murphy's.

And something else to read

Thanks for this, appreciated. So no-no at LHR, and we probably won't have enough time at DXB anyway...
