I'm looking for some hotel suggestions in London.

On Tuesday February 11th I'm going to see Matilda, which is a 7pm show that is meant to last just over 2 and a half hours.

The next morning I'm flying out of LHR T1 at 11:20, so don't really fancy going back to Cambridge in between. I am hoping for some suggestions of where to stay that so I can get to from Covent Garden that evening and then to LHR relatively easily the next morning.

Many thanks.

I suppose it all depends on your budget, my favourite hotel is The Cavendish in Mayfair, right behind Fortnums. Great hotel, very friendly staff, excellent afternoon tea if you feel like taking it. Rooms are average size for a central London hotel but very, very comfortable.

Website is http://www.thecavendish-london.co.uk and when you get to booking page make sure you select 'promotion' from the promo/corporate drop down and then type Facebook in the next box. It will get you 15% discount and include breakfast, for about £180. Normally breakfast is extra and total would be in the region of £240-£250 per night.

Hope that helps :)

Dean Street Townhouse is a favourite of ours. Easy to get to from Covent Garden and lots of places for post theatre dining. Rooms are small but immacutely designed...Cowshed toiletries as standard..

My fav is Hotel 41 top floor of the Reubans ( which is also nice ) on Buckingham Palace road. Easy ride from there out of London.

Just to add... Last time in London, we walked from soho back to the hilton tower bridge! We were quite drunk!
Follow the shard, follow the shard I kept saying in my drunken state! The hilton tower bridge is right by the shard! So a sort of homing beacon! Needed when drunk!
The next day with aching legs and a hangover that even mother could be proud of, I googled we had walked 3 miles!
So not exactly west end...get a taxi. :)

Stay at the Hilton and use one of the codes from Flyertalk - I've had some 40% off success.

As you say, not exactly close by the West End, but a night walk down the South Bank can be a very pleasant way to pass some time.

An alternative is to restrict your theatre going to the Menier Chocolate Factory. Just around the corner, leaving plenty of time to raid the Exec Lounge before hand...

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have booked The Cavendish, the rate was very good and I must say it is very convenient for both the theatre and Paddington.

It's been a couple of years since I've been to the South Bank and never at night I feel that is probably a tad to far to walk on this occasion and even with codes the Hilton was still more expensive.

Hopefully it will be a good stay followed by my first Little Red flight.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Of course you can be as pedantic as you like Peter, I don't mind at all, but you didn't add anything else to the topic really. To be more pedantic I said the hotel was in Mayfair, which isn't strictly correct either, but is how they market themselves. Thanks for the geography lesson though.

Now, now boys! Let's not quibble over little things - after all, Bretty, neither did your response add anything. |:)
