It was announced on my LR flight last night that VS are status matching BA Gold and Silver Executive Club card holders. May be of use to some.

Hope BA does the same thing and match's my VS AU status ):

Edited title to avoid confusion.

yes, if BA would match VS it'd be excellent, but given how rammed the BA lounges can get, I suspect the last thing they need is more elite members

tbh it feels a bit desperate on VS's part to do this

I think GGL is rather closer to UNIQ. BA AU is (now) only 5 long-haul J returns + 100 TP.

It's true that in terms of benefits VS AU more or less equals BA AG, but BA AG is much easier to attain (2 long-hauls in J + just 40 TPs vs the 4 VS long-hauls in J for AU).

It's in-flight on VS-LR only.

Ask a crew member, and they bring back a small application form, which you fill in, and the crew also adds some details, and they send it to Flying Club.
I saw the pax in front of me do this on a flight this afternoon.

I tell you, seeing the extra BA award flight inventory that comes up from being gold with them, I'm sooooooooo close to just cutting over completely. If I do all my travel on BA I should be able to sustain gold past the 2015 date I'm comp'd to.

Seriously, I actually managed to use some avios today. For 2 seperate sets of flights for 4 people in the school summer holidays, and with negligible fees ^) ^)

Ok, appreciate that there's a lot more inventory with short haul routes, but really, I'm on the brink here, when I consider the more than half a million VS miles and upgrade bonuses that I've accumulated but never been able to use for anything in the school hols.

I keep telling myself that I'm accumulating them for my retirement when I'll be able to fly whenever I want in UC, but not so sure any more.

Oh VS, give me a sign that I should stay true to you, for I am being sorely tempted oo) ?| oo)

Since Amex comped started comping me VS Au I must admit to flying BA a lot more and I find that keeping Au with them is very worthwhile. The opening of reward inventory is just one of the nice touches and availability with Cathay is generally good when I need it.

I think this is a very good point. I have been on the verge of starting a major moan thread about the ridiculous change in reward inventory policy over the past 12 or so months, which has I think mirrored BA (...) and has drastically changed the attractiveness of FC. It is one respect in which VS gold doesn't help at all - except that it gets you the CH before your economy flight on which there are empty UC seats.... :(!

I can confirm that sending an email to VS asking for a status match doesn't work:

Thank you for emailing in regarding your request for a status match.

Unfortunately for us to status match, you have to be at a higher level of membership with another airline. You would need to be either a gold or platinum member.

However, please don't let this stop you from joining up to our Flying Club. There are many benefits to our programme, such as our Reward flights. For more information about our programme, please follow the link below;

Amusing how they give me a link to sign up to the FC, despite the fact I've been a member for 17 years now - and I provided them with my FC number to start with.

I too didnt redeem VS miles for nearly 10 years, and what with some amex additions ended up with over 3.5 million for my retirement. I have been trying to spend them over the last 2 years and apart from Tokyo and Dubai, availability in upper is shocking. Interestingly i managed a few months ago to obtain 2 seats in first, on BA to singapore, with avios..... over the singapore grand prix weekend. Now that is value

Maybe we have been lucky; we've managed Tokyo, St. Lucia, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

We are, however, very flexible about dates and normally telephone Flying Club and ask where they have seats to and from over the next two to three weeks; the St. Lucia trip was organised 24 hours before the flight and simply needed a suitable hotel availability to set it in motion; Discovery at Maginot Bay which we secured at a 50% discount for a massive apartment and half-board, as it was 'out of season' but still blisteringly hot!

We are now a little more off subject but is that possible to just call up flying club and say "I can travel anytime in the next 2 weeks, 2 people, what availability do you have in upper and to where?"
