Unfortunately I run Parallels and the version I have would not work with Mavericks. But I would be interested to hear what changes there are in Mavericks and whether it is worth the upgrade.
I gave up with Parallels ages ago. I find VMWare Fusion is much better now and offers better compatibility.
All Intel based Macs will run Windows using the built in BootCamp assistant (you choose to boot into OS X or Windows). Fusion & Parallels allow you to run Windows from within OS X at the same time. It also doesn't have to be Windows, you can instal virtually any OS using Parallels or Fusion if you need to.
If you don't need to run Windows and everything works as it is now, I wouldn't worry about it.
One thing I forgot to mention is the only thing that has stopped working for me in Mavericks (and it seems many other people too) are the Safari website push notifications.
My iMac hard drive seems to have died today, so new one on its way from Dabs and gives me an excuse to rebuild with a fresh install of Mavericks. Not sure I want to risk it on the MacBook Pro or Air yet - too many work-critical apps on them ;-) But I'll see how the iMac fares before totally ruling it out.
