I know this subject is always been talked about but i'm hoping someone can clarify for me

I've seen a reasonable price M class to shanghai and there also G's available at 25000 miles, but how can I find out what the extra tax will be?

Many Thanks

Do a dummy booking for an UC fare, the taxes are shown next to the total price. Then do the same for an economy fare and subtract one from the other.

Hi Linyilee,

I do this trip regularly, what cost have you seen an M for? Have you looked at S fares?

I find that an S is usually only a couple of hundred pounds more, saves 25000 miles and gives you 8 TPs --- all valuable in my book and worth the extra £s :)

That is a very low differential between a relatively cheap economy fare code and the second highest PE fare code. Can't say I have ever seen such small gap between the two.

I'd agree. Even on a shorter route, a test fare just gave 700 for an M and 1160 for an S. 460 difference, that's 65% more...

Linyilee, Neil, Smid,

Sorry for the confusion here, my fault for jumping from one way flight to return in the same posting, also other workings I take into account that I did not mention earlier make the S more rewarding in my opinion

Linyilee was quoting one way, as 25,000 miles is one way upgrade M to G? --- therefore a couple of hundred pounds one way.

Return flights
M to G is 50,000 miles, S to G is 25,000 miles, S returns 17,158 miles [M = 11,430]+ silver/gold bonus miles, make payment by VS black card and the flight has not cost me any miles at all in fact I am several thousand miles better off, add the extra 2 TPs and I feel I am getting great value, as I am also in Flying Co I get more miles from the S fare

All very subjective I know but for my circumstances I would choose an S over an M [albeit at an additional cost of £400] any day
