Hey guys,

Flying from LHR - LAX on the 1st Of May, ended up paying £900 for Prem out and Econ back but when signing in I can see that we can upgrade the outward leg to Upper for £709. Do you think its worth it? What are the planes like on that route? Is it the new style Upper class? If not I think we likely just try to pay for lounge access.

We travelled to LAX last summer and upgraded. We were on the VS23 and it was a A346 from what I remember. The cabin was cosy but had a nice feel, in my opinion anyway. It was the old UC.
If you add in the fact that you can use drive thru checkin, private security channel and of course the amazing clubhouse then you may think it's worth it, but that's a very personal decision :)
It's a looooong flight, we were glad to have had a restful flight especially as my OH was driving when we landed and we also had our 5 year old with us. He loved the whole UC experience and will expect the same next time we travel !!

Only you can decide if it's worth it. It's an 11 hour flight so the flat bed and extra space & comfort are very welcome - but £700's a lot of money which I'm sure you could put to good use in LA.

Most LAX flights are on the A346 which is the old UC suite, sometimes the earlier VS7 flight uses a 747 which is also the old UC suite. Most V-Flyers prefer the old suite to the new ones (which are only on the new A333s which never go to LAX).

Be warned pay-as-you-enter Clubhouse access is never guaranteed and is often refused if it's busy.

It's an ok price, I think, but not amazing. I'd be more tempted to investigate how much it would be to upgrade to PE inbound since you'll really feel the benefit on the long overnight sector.

I agree with this. If you can only pick one sector for the upgrade I would go the inbound (assuming that this is a redeye flight) as thats when the most benefit could be gained.
You could always go for the Guestlist so that you can enjoy LHR CH and DTCI etc as, as said by others access on the day is not always guaranteed.

For a daytime flight I'd be tempted not to bother. PE for daytime is a very very good product. On the other hand, the return overnight is definately worth it. I did the same journey recently and my jet lag after returning home was non existent, I'm sure almost entirely due to flying upper - I managed to stay awake all day after landing at 6am following a full nights sleep.

Totally agree with this. If you are only upgrading one leg then try to make it inbound.

I just hope for your sake it's not a software error.
I had MCO to Gatwick showing £334 but on a phone call they said it was £899. Now it's £2900!
Customer Services said it was an IT fault.

If it's genuine snap it up now.

Depends on how much you value sleep over the quaffing of champagne... :)
