For me, smart casual but nothing that is going to crease too much from a 9 hour sit down.
Last year I wore a purple striped business shirt under a purple v neck sweater and brown moleskin trousers. (not real moleskin they're just called that.) At the bar I pretty well just blended into the purple virgin scenery.

On our recent first time to fly UC from LHR we tried to make a bit of an effort.
I wore a pair of chino's with a black burberry polo shirt and a Gant Pinstripe blazer.
I dont think there is a strict dress code but just felt it was nice to dress up a bit, adds to the experience-though Im sure the regulars may disagree (i would probably be the same).
However upon boarding I changed to pjs straightaway to avoid creases lol plus its more comfortable

Which surely defeated the object of making the effort by dressing up gfonk!!

My view is, unless you're a celebrity or someone obsessed with their image, wear whatever you're comfortable in (as long as it's not offensive).

It's a long flight, so I say go for comfort over style.

(This rule does not, of course, apply on BA where anything less than full evening dress in CW or F will provoke snorts of derision and barely concealed conspiratorial whispers of "new money" from your fellow passengers)

Guess that kinda makes sense gumshoe. Just I like to arrive in Tokyo looking good too, as Tokyo is kinda stylish lol. But your point does kinda make sense i will grant you that.

as for BA :0 lol whispers of new money lol thats a good one. I will bear that in mind if I ever get to fly BA F.

Oh happy days remembering Fuzzy14's thread! :D

For work purposes I have to dress smartly, so to compensate I tend to be very bedraggled when in my own time. I'm the person who gets stopped on the way to the UC check-in and gently interrogated as to my travel class... more than once... B)

When I flew BA First, however, I made an effort and put on a shirt, only to find that everyone else in the cabin looked pretty dishevelled. The suits were in CW. Somewhere in that anecdote is the meaning of life. ;)

Just let me know when you'll be in the CH because I'll make sure I'm not....... But I'll arrange for another V-Flyer to be there with camera poised :o)

What about a sarong? A certain footballer was photographed wearing one not sooooo long ago. Or is that so yesterday?

On our first UC flight we both made an effort, I work in fashion so I can get obsessed about outfits for certain occasions! I still packed 4 blazers knowing full well what one I'd be wearing. I even bought a beautiful leather satchel that the other half has pinched for his own use! I call it the upper class bag...
For our upcoming flights I'm going back to my mantra of dressing for the destination! Chino shorts and a polo or maybe a Hawaiian shirt!

H79 I'm just letting you know that my trigger finger is twitching in case of mention of a onesie, an item of clothing that should not be worn outside the home / mental institution. ): Other than that, wear what's comfortable. Some people change into the "sleep suits" given out (especially on night flights), others take their own PJs. BUT NOT A ONESIE!

dressing for the destination was exactly my thinking too. ie we were going to Tokyo and a vast majority of Tokyoites are incredibly fashionable plus we had a meeting in omotesando within hours of arriving. Upon boarding change to pjs and hang clothing that you dont want to get creased. At last opportunity just before descent commences get changed to outfit.

I also remember fuzzy14's post with a chuckle.

I almost always travel in jeans and a t-shirt. No Hollister but occasionally A&F :-) and mostly Super Dry cos they're so soft and comfy. I have never been looked at funny or been treated less respectfully (except for a check-in agent at LAX). I have also worn a football shirt twice and wasn't burned at the stake so I don't think it really matters.

My view is that wear what you're comfortable in so long as things aren't hanging out that shouldn't be, and if like gfonk you're going straight to a meeting, it's better to bring a change of clothes or have your jacket hung cos it's likely you will look dishevelled on arrival.

Any clothing seems acceptable, however comfort seems to be the main prerequisite for a happy flight. However I would have to think twice on boarding the cabin if someone was wearing a onsie and Crocs! (Which in my opinion is ultimate fashion faux pas (for adults).

For me its comfort all the way and just before landing whip out that little hawaiian number and shades :)

But I still nabbed a few hours sleep y)

Ha ha ha, I love these threads.... For my next UC flight (22nd Feb) I believe I shall wear a waistcoat and a fedora as accessories to my clothing, think I will stand out at security? :P

That they do... typically reserved for night flights, but I have seen them snuck to pax on day flights in the past (depending on if they have any in the cabin of course - like the newspapers, they sometimes hide in the hold).

Which flight were you on?

Only if the waistcoat comes with a pocket watch and there's a big fluorescent feather in the fedora.
