Seems that a special offer is on at the moment for new applicants, 10,000 miles for the white card and 25,000 miles on the Black card.

To receive the White bonus you need to spend £1,000 in 90 days and for the black £2000 in 90 days, offer available online now, this is the best offer I have ever seen for these cards!

You can try but MBNA are known for being a bit shirty on thingsl ike that.

You can however apply for the white as MBNA treat the white and black cards separately; its a free card so you can earn the miles then dump it if you wanted to.

I've just been doing my maths before applying.

[First real foray into Flying Club miles, just looking to make another single-pop diversified pot away from oneworld - and to grab the card sign-up opportunity.]

Anyway, to get the bonus on the black card, I'd need to spend £2000. To get the bonus on the white card, you only need to spend £1000. So lets work on spending £2000 on the Amex of both for comparison:

Code: Select allWhite Amex card spend £2000 > 12,000 (10k bonus + 2k*1)
Black Amex card spend £2000 > 29,000 (25k bonus + 2k*2)
Extra earned on the black   = 17,000
Black card annual fee           £140
Effectively paying per point: 0.8235 pence

Given the current Amex MR conversion bonus to Flying Club, and the current Tesco conversion bonus and opt-in bouns, and that I'm really probably only looking for a single-pop redemption pot, I'm getting dragged towards the White. (Plenty of MR and Tesco).

In this thread (linked below) it is mentioned that Amex reps in the Clubhouse can offer signup bonuses up to 30k. And Petmadness mentions being sucessfull getting this on the Black as a white holder.
Q1: Are reps for the cards usually in the lounge?
Q2: Is this kind of lounge bonus offer (or something approaching it) usually available from them?

I held the White card for just over a year and applied for the Black in the Clubhouse at the end of Dec. I was offered the 30k mile deal - on first use of the card (no min spend threshold). Applied there and then, and miles had posted by the end of Feb. I then cancelled my White card.

I've got the paperwork they gave me at home, can check later for you if there's an expiry date for the offer stated in the T&Cs.

Worth remembering that you earn 4 miles per £ of spend with VS on the Black AMEX. Consequently you should factor in how much you plan to spend with them into your maths - if you've got some expensive flight purchases on the horizon it makes the Black much more tempting.

Cheers for the link Phoenix y)

Am I correct in saying that the flying club rep in the LHR CH offers 30K miles for the black card signups?

Every little mile helps :P

Yep that's what I got , I'm pretty sure it was 2 installments , 24,000 and 6,000

We got the 30K also from signing up in the Gatwick CH. 6,000 first and the additional 24,000 did arrive eventually after a few follow up phone calls.

Thanks - if you could that would be much appreciated.

Just checked for you. The terms and conditions I have just state that "this offer is exclusively available inside the Clubhouse for a limited time only, so don't miss out". The small print states that "This offer can be withdrawn or amended at any time". So no info on expiry dates I'm afraid.

It does confirm the timescales for bonus points to be credited (and lack of need to reach a target spend):
6,000 bonus miles will be credited to your Flying Club account by MBNA after your first card purchase. Your miles will appear on your credit card account statement providing you use either of your cards within 90 days of your account opening and supply your Flying Club membership number. A further 24,000 bonus miles will be credited to your Flying Club account by Virgin Atlantic but will not appear on your credit card account statement. Please allow 3 months for the complete bonus miles balance to be added to your account.

Here's a pic of the flyer they gave me describing the offer:

Hope this helps.
