I fear you may be caught in the trap I outlined. If part of your booking is on a very restricted K fare, you may be being forced to reprice your itinerary to include paying up to a PE return fare that allows you the flexibility you need. (e.g. if your K was a very restricted sale fare with a 21 day restriction period, you will now be inside that period and changes will cause a nasty repricing, even though you are not actually changing the inbound.)

I am not convinced this is the explanation and they do make mistakes, so may be worth trying again tomorrow. But yes -- I have come across this myself and yes they can override at the airport but whether they will is another question.

The thing I don't understand is that I don't think you are actually changing your flight, so I am not sure why just trying to pay a fare difference on the outbound would trigger this. ?|

Good luck.

Can only pay for the offer at the airport on Friday if available. All those dummy bookings for nothing!

If it's any consolation the last time I was on an H fare ( from JFK ) I upgraded myself and two daughters for $245 and 30,000 miles in total so maybe all is not lost for you

Thanks, I think you may well be spot on and your right I'm not trying to change the flight
Although as joey has pointed out I could buy a whole new M fare return cheaper ,I will of course try at the airport but am kicking myself I didn't change my bro in law to an M when I done mine weeks ago .

Was this on day of travel? Glimmer of hope restored. This process has been an education. Got up to speed just a wee bit too late! Let's keep our fingers crossed for each other!
