Evacuation- quick must take hand baggage

Yet another classic example of people struggling off in an emergency.. carting all their hand baggage with them... v( :0

That's crazy, but had that been in the Hudson like one of it's sister aircraft was, I doubt they would taking hand luggage with them.

I always keep my shoes on until seat belt sign goes off after take off and my passport on wallet on me. Therefore you've got everything you need in an evac

I'm in no way condoning it, but I guess one reason is that the value of the contents of your average carry-on have increased massively in recent years.

20 years ago you just took on a book or two. Now you could easily have over a grand's worth of laptop, tablet, smartphone, eBook reader etc etc.

None of which, of course, matters in the grand scheme of things but it does explain why some people are loathe to leave them behind.

I think that in these situations the crew should have full authority to yell at people to put their cases down and get the hell off the aircraft. An evacuation on take-off is no joke.

Yep, I do the same, and repeat for landing. Anything else is surplus to requirements.

I strongly suspect compounded by lack of adequate insurance to cover the items. I do wonder how many do actually travel with little or no insurance?

Mrs Fuzzy takes part in a Florida "forum" on Facebook and I'm astounded by the number of people who have admitted travelling to the States (from the UK) with no travel insurance. They could run up a £1m medical bill no problem there. So perhaps that's partly it.

Like above I've normally got my passport, wallet and phone on me, I don't really care about what's left. If you can afford a long haul flight you can afford to trade an iPad for your life.

Funny enough one of my concerns is that in an emergency situation how long would it take to organise some food and water for those evacuated.
