Hi all,

Obviously it's me but I'm accruing miles but every flight I check on, the Fare codes are always the lower levels and therefore unable to redeem my miles for any upgrades.

Is this common at all? Or am I just unlucky?

Thanks

Tim

There's a discussion in another thread about this: for the past couple of weeks (at least) it's been impossible to search for M (or any other flexible) fare codes in the usual way online as when you do, all it seems to do is revert to the cheapest non-upgradable fares.

Whether this is a temporary glitch or an "enhancement" is unclear but it's very annoying and means, for now at least, you'll have to call to price up M or other upgradable fares.

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the site, the link for previous discusion is forum/index.php?f=4&t=270618&start=140&rb_v=viewtopic

Can anybody confirm that after searching on the site and not finding upgradable fares [M, S etc] that a call to FC then proved upgradable fares were available?

Yes, "M" fares were available on the phone, although it took the reservations agent a bit of time to find them...his system was slow!!...Oh dear! :(!

Hope this helps

Hi Tim,

There is a problem at the moment with some of the more 'advanced' functionality on the VS website for us fare hunters, but we must not let that put us off.

Which routes are you looking at upgrades on? There has been a bit of a lull of late in reward availability on some routes so I can understand your annoyance.

Half of everything is luck, so it could be that you have been a bit unlucky of late. Never be afraid to give it a pop at the airport if nothing crops up though. The check in agent can calculate the cost of moving onto an upgradeable ticket which will allow you to use some of your mileage stash for upgrades. If you are looking to book upgradeable fares in advance then at the moment the only way to do this economically is to call the VS call centre.... hopefully they will have their outdated website fixed in short order -then again I am still awaiting the announcement of the opening of an airport strictly for pigs ii)

Hi All,

Thanks everyone for their input - most appreciated.

I did try a flexible ticket but even that came up with a x code.

I have just contacted VS and according to the person I spoke to, you are unable to book any Y, B, R , L or M tickets during the school holidays (which smacks of discrimination).

She also advised that the LHR-LAX route is extremely busy in August.
From reading some posts on here, there's some discrepancy going on if they're not going to be using the 747-400's and using the 340-600's instead.

Anyway, I digress, I'll dress appropriately and see what happens at check-in (although we always use the self service check in at LHR T3).

Here's hoping

Just tried again to redeem my "book a miles redemption econ flight and get a free upgrade to PE" offer, oddly there is plenty of availability outbound, but in a 3 week window, absolutely nothing returning from either of 2 airports. I find it hard to believe so many Americans are flying over here for that particular 3 weeks...

Can't help but wonder.
