Extra baggage - can it be combined to one bag?

I need to add some extra baggage to my outbound flight from LHR - LAX on Monday but aren't in a position to take an extra bag with me and was hoping to add the extra stuff I need into my current case. If I purchase an extra bag online, can this extra weight be added to my current bag, or do I have to physically take a second bag? Wasn't sure what the rules were for this?

No, I'm pretty sure it can't. If you pay for (or are entitled for free to) a second bag, you can't combine the weight allowance of the two into one.

However the normal allowance of 23kg per bag can be upped to 32kg (the absolute max) for a fee, but only at the airport - not online.

theres an overweight baggage charge of £40 for a bag 23kg-32kg
I dont think you can purchase online though, just at the airport
32kg is the maximum allowed for an individual bag

Ah, so I can add weight at the airport. That's good to know - I wasn't wanting to take an extra bag as the things I am taking aren't that big, but weigh 6 kilos in total which sort of messes up my 23kg allowance!

Unfortunately it's cosmetic samples so includes liquid so can't go in the cabin.
