Hi There V-Flyer!

I have a question about fare codes.

I’ll be flying to the states on an S class ticket, and in the handy fare class guide on V-Flyer, it states it is upgradable IF there is availability in G class.

This fare is eligible for utilisation of:
Upgrades - from Premium Economy to Upper Class for 20,000 miles per sector.(there must be availability in G Class for an Upper Class Upgrade)

However, Flying Club on the phone seem to think that S class is not upgradable (from Prem. Econ to Upper). They said I would need to pay to change the ticket to (W) and then pay the tax for the upgrade.

There is a chance I’ve misunderstood the above, and that it is upgradable if you pay to change the code fare?

Cheers :)

S fares can be upgraded without changing fare code.

There may be some obscure exceptions but other than those I think you've been given the wrong answer.

Agreed, I've upgraded S -> G directly before. I'd suggest calling back and hoping you get someone else...

It's not tax, it's extra fuel surcharge and it varies depending on the route. What route are you flying?

There are certain variations of S fare that aren't upgradable so you do need to be 100% sure and inky VS can confirm that for you.

How / where did you purchase your S fare. Is it a full S return or combined with another fare code one way? Which route?

Interesting post indeed so I will jump with a related question ... M to G and S to G LHR-LAX-LHR ... What should I expect for surcharges ?
Thanks a lot in advance !
