Gatwick to Barbados late August 2013
Dropped off at Gatwick before 7am in the morning. Not a lot of traffic on the way but it was a Saturday morning. Check in was a breeze and all members of the group, even those in PE, checked in at the Upper a Class desk. Literally was do e and through security in about 5 minutes. Into lounge for a second breakfast of the day and a treatment, we were the first passengers into the lounge. It did fill up a little later on but definitely not full up. Waited for final calls and then a long walk to the gate, second last group to board. On to the Airbus 330, first impressions were that it was clean and new looking. UC was half full but PE and E were both full. Asked about upgrades for those in PE but nothing cheap/miles was available, I think they were asking for £1800. (Should have asked at check in).
Cabin Crew for the most part were excellent and friendly (apart from the supervisor who was a little cold) and were even happy for some of the PE pax to sit at the bar. Met some interesting people at the bar and very relaxed atmosphere, probably helped by the half empty cabin.
Seat, in my opinion not as good as old UC seats on the 747/340. Felt a little cramped and your feet are protruding into the aisle, making a little difficult for the crew to go about their duties. I was at the back of the cabin on the left hand side and had at least 3 seats clear all around me so very quiet.
Food, as I am GF free traveller! this was very bland. Very few places are able to do good GF free food. Wine selection was fine, sampled both the Red and Whites! Food in the lounge was much better.
Arrived at Barbados on time, it was very wet and landed in the opposite direction from normal operations, so no views of the island during landing. Long wait to get through immigration as per usual but on the plus sides bags were all ready to picked up once through.
