We are travelling to Chicago June 27th I suffer from Osteo-arthritis in my Knee which up until recently has not been a problem, just recently though I have been having a lot of trouble - typical just before a holiday!!! I would rather NOT book assistance at the airport but a lot depends on how far the gates are from the clubhouse. can anyone give me an idea of the walking distances involved - our first time at Heathrow.

It varies to be honest, some are close, some aren't - it just depends which gates are available.

I think to be on the safe see it would be worth discussing with Virgin Special assistance team and organising something if required.

Thanks Neil - that's what 'she who must be obeyed' said. I suppose assistance will mean both ends or at least I hope so because after 8 hrs on the plane I'm not certain I will be able to walk far at O'Hare.

I would say that the furthest gates are over 1/4 mile away from the CH. There are moving walkways for about half of that distance.

It is worse on the return, because you have to go a bit further to get into the immigration hall, and revivals is still further.

Just to add, it is an even longer walk from de-planing to immigration at chicago o'hare. At least it was today!!! There are moving walkways stateside too. So, you may really appreciate the SA on landing.

I have good and bad days hopefully it will be a good day when we fly. But that said SA normally gets some sort of priority at immigration (well it seemed to every time we went before and never needed SA)
