Hi all,

We booked our flight from LHR to SF last November and are flying on 6th September 2014.

I know I can't select my seats until 25th June BUT, have heard from Virgin that I have to pay £25 per person ?

is this right?
Has anyone had to pay yet?

It certainly wasn't a chargeable service when we booked out flights so feel a bit put out!

Thanks all
Anne

On no, I've just checked what class I'm in and it's 'N'
and return from LAX is 'X'

wonder if this makes a difference?
I used a few airmiles to pay for flight but don't see why that would make a difference?

Thanks for the link :-)

That's in WT+ I believe (though of course seat requests in PE on VS will still be free).

For WT it's £26 for a middle row or £30 for a window row.

Hmmm, I've just re-read the select seat info and it's pretty confusing to be honest

I think, you can only select your seat free of charge at check in..and not 60 days before departure.. But feel free to correct me

We're travelling economy N class outward to SF and booked in November

Seat requests for all flights after August 24th, in all classes, open on June 25th.

At that point most economy passengers will have to either pay £25 or wait until check in to choose a seat for free.

You, however, won't have to pay as you booked before Dec 16th and you should be able to request seats on June 25th.

The current T-60 system is only in operation until June 24th, then it goes.

At least that's the theory.

Thanks gumshoe. Yeah, the 25th June date I get but it's the below paragraph that's a little misleading.... In one way they said free of charge to select your seat then they say it's chargeable... I've attached the paragraph. :?

The way you choose your seat is changing...

We know how important choosing a seat is to you and over the last couple of years we’ve been working hard and investing in ways to improve the process.
If you are in Upper Class, Premium Economy, Economy booked in Y or B class, a Flying Club Gold member or you made a confirmed booking on or before 16 December 2013, you will be exempt from any charges for selecting your seat.
From 25 June, all Economy customers will be able to select seats free of charge at check in but for those customers wanting to assign a seat before this time, the service will be available for a fee.

This means that until 25 June, all customers will be able to select their seats free of charge from 60 days before flight departure.

From 25 June, seats will be available to select from time of booking up to 336 days before departure.

Charges will apply to all routes (except London Heathrow to Tokyo

Yes it is very confusing but as far as you're concerned this is the key paragraph:

Don't stress about it - life is too short! On June 25th you'll be in the same boat as many, many other passengers but just being a V-Flyer means you're probably one step ahead of the vast majority.

The two sentences in the paragraph in question I believe are completely unrelated. If they were, would that not also mean that UC pax would be subject to a fee as well?

You must be good, just those in Econ who don't fit the first sentence's criteria at all will have to pay for anything ahead of T-24.
