Hi,

My wife and I are flying PE LHR - ORD in a week's time. It'll be our first time in PE and our first flight for 7 years!

I've loaded the iPad with films and TV and packed a magazine.

I'm wondering whether or not to buy a newspaper for the flight in the departure lounge but am aware that Virgin do give you a paper. I don't want to end up with one I wouldn't normally choose however.

What are Virgin currently giving out?

TIA,

SPD.

Daily Mail, Telegraph and the Financial Times are the ones that usually make an appearance. I have seen other random newspapers and magazines in the racks by the boarding gates before too, hopefully there should be something there to appeal to you.

The VS IFE is also pretty good. It has a massive selection of TV shows and movies to choose from, as well as music and games. It could definitely keep you occupied for the entire flight. 8D

Cheers,

I'd usually read the i. The Telegraph is perhaps a little unwieldy to read on a plane?

AFAIK, the A340 only has Vera Reel?

The i is often available on board in UC so you may be able to pinch a copy if you ask nicely :)

Depends which A340 variant. All of the A340-600's and 1/4 of the A340-300's have Vera On Demand. The other 3/4 of the ...-300's have 'Reel

Ahhh the A343.... then you are doing the right thing regarding loading up on entertainment. You have a 1/4 chance of being on the a/c containing VERA On Demand - best get praying to the G-VSUN god :P

The Telegraph is no more unwieldily than the FT.... watching pax wrestling with those could be entertainment in itself :w

The I is 30p, I struggle to think when it's a significant cost difference to have to wait to the plane before getting one.

I'd not be sad to see if free when I'd bought one already. I could have started reading it before the plane too...

You're quite right. What a tight old so-and-so I look.

Nothing worse though than buying a paper that's been given away 20 mins later! I normally buy a paper that I know won't be onboard (Herald, Scotsman or Guardian) then it means I've got 2 as I devour reading material on holidays.

Last I saw the Guardian was £1.40 (indeed so was the independent, yet the I contains the same information as Indy), so... :D

Says more about the content in the Independent in my opinion. :) The I lasts barely long enough to cover a breakfast in the Hilton....

Hi, I flew into chicago on the VS39 today. I can confirm that the 'i' was not available at the gate prior to boarding (nor the clubhouse, had to go for the full independent in there instead) only the daily mail. It was definitely handed out in UC, though. So, you could try the cheeky ask if it's not available in PE.
No g-vsun god smiling on me either...

They usually have the Independent, the Mail, and the FT. Not the Guardian or the Times. But it's hit and miss in PE and sometimes you don't get a choice. Sometimes you don't get anything at all!

Thanks,

I'll not risk the lack of choice or lack of a paper so I'll make my mind up on the morning.

I'm not particularly swayed either way politically, so whichever of the small format broadsheets looks more appealing will get my cash.
