Going to have 6-7 hours to kill before my 10pm VS24 flight back from LAX; anything good to do in/around LAX airport??? All suggestions welcome - long story but difficult to leave the airport, so creative suggestions on how to pass the time v. welcome - as are any recommended bars/restaurants etc around the airport. Ta!

Bad luck - LAX is a fairly dismal place with hardly any facilities landside (and not that many airside).

Sadly the Encounter restaurant in the Theme Building in the middle of the airport closed 6 months ago and, AFAIK, there's really not much else.

My suggestion would be either to get a cab to one of the nearby beaches for a couple of hours or catch a shuttle bus to one of the nicer airport hotels and eat/drink there.

We had a 4.5 hour wait at LAX on our return from Hawaii. We were feeling lazy and so thought it would be best to stay in the Terminal. Biggest mistake you could possibly make! The terminal that VS use in LAX its awful, unless you have the CH there are only a few small restaurants and barely and shops. I would recommend you try to leave the airport at all costs to avoid severe boredom!

Same with most of the other terminals.

I believe T2's due to be refurbished with new facilities added, but the underlying problem will still remain: as with many US airports, LAX is a disparate collection of small terminals each with very limited facilities and no easy way of getting between them as all the shops & restaurants are airside and once you're through security there are very few inter-terminal connections so you're stuck with what there is in yours.

JFK's the same; Philadelphia, on the other hand, is a passenger's dream.

Another good airport for airside stuff is Houston from memory. (maybe Dallas) - my memory fails me - think it's Houston though. All airside gates connected via tram so you can use any shop/lounge airside and get to final gate reasonably quick.

Unfortunately, Google Maps puts Houston at about 23hrs each way by cab from LAX, so probably not much use :? ?

Manhattan Beach is not far away. Got stuck in LA for 6 days because of the volcano a few years ago & went there most days to walk along the pier & eta etc. We were 'billeted ‘at the Radisson LAX & there was a road train that picked up from there every 15/20 mins or so & then dropped us back off. A courtesy bus from LAX would get you to the Radisson.
