Hi All,

Flew VS400 LHR-DXB on Tuesday 10th and was notified at the gate that there was a crew for an ITV production company onboard. My travelling partner requested us not to be filmed to two of the crew and the cabin manager informed us that Upper Class wouldn't be filmed. They did spend quite a lot of time filming 'generic shots' in UC though. The crew also sat in UC and were moving around quite a bit throughout the flight.

Am I being over the top in wanting to write a complaint to VS that I feel the UC cabin should be a relaxing place and afforded as much privacy as possible, as despite the assurances if CC I am sure they captured us in a sleepy bed head state during the mornng?

Whilst it sounded, for you, an unfortunate situation to be in, I would hope the crew that sat in UC had valid tickets to do so.

In which case, they have as much right as any other pax to be "moving around" and really isn't any different to the TR I read a few days ago bemoaning children in the cabin. A ticket in UC is a seat in that cabin, not a passport to special privileges of whispering passengers and library quiet.

Unless you are in a snooze/sleep zone or perhaps they were rowdy warranting intervention from the CC, I don't think you have cause for a complaint.

That aside, Virgin do sometimes take note and you may find a few miles chucked at you should you contact them.

Personally I feel they should have notified you before the flight, not as you boarded.

I agree with Marshy11 here - if they had tickets they can move about a lot if they want to...

However, being told before you took the flight would have been a much better option (and got you a few extra hours in the CH..!). I wouldn't write demanding anything - more just upset feedback if you feel it is deserved.

Personally, I this was me I would most likely email them.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't have problem with people moving around the cabin, and there were perfectly behaved children on the flight (other than the odd squeal from a baby which is understandable). There is a big difference between three people with a TV camera and a innocent child!

Unfortunately there isn't a sleep zone on this flight due to it being the UCDS Airbus.

I will write and see what happens, no expectation other than my privacy being when airing.

What Marshy said +1

I think I'd welcome the crew and chat to them on a day flight and try to find out exactly what they were filming for.

I'd probably have a brief chat on a night flight along the lines of, "Would you mind awfully keeping the noise down a bit. We are trying to sleep" Or words to that effect.

As the cabin is not a public open space I think they would require a release authorising them to use images of anyone they filmed. That is why the faces are sometimes blurred out in these sort of programmes.

It could be the crew were asked to move about by the production company for some 'artists' reason.
It could also be that people (crew or otherwise) were asked to sit in UC to make sure it looked full. Empty seats is not a good advert.

Agreed that you would have needed to sign a release form for your face to appear on TV. They usually get people to sign them even if there's a small chance they could appear so the fact they haven't asked you would suggest there was no intention.

I once was filmed at work and yes they do need to get you to sign a release to use footage of you.
I work In a hospital and my claim to fame is being seen escorting a patient to the operating theatre on an old episode of embarrassing bodies. In hind sight I should not have signed.

Now if that had been "24 Hrs in A&E" I would have been well impressed...

Thankfully no I was not the embarrassing one.

Possibly the worst episode ever being male the patient involved was on an episode on lady parts.
Thankfully the clip is not on line.
